Malaysia already could detain people for decades under the ISA, and they abused this for decades.

Not exactly a bastion of civil liberties.

You cannot dull a rusted blade. Then again, if Malaysia expects to join the ranks of developed nations by 2020. course it will need harsh anti-terrorism laws of the likes of those enforced in the US, UK and Australia.
