In many countries having the mistress would be grounds for divorce and worth more than the ransom asked. Anyone know how it works in Malaysia?

Women and men like her brother should not be permitted to marry or breed. Not only violent, but dumb as a box of rocks. How much brains does it take to realize its the husband stepping outside the marriage, not the mistress stepping in. The mistress owes the wife nothing, and has made no vows or promises to her whatsoever.
The only one to have any communication with over the affair is the man UNLESS you have some very good reason to think the mistress is trying to break up the marriage. Even then, its your other half who you need to focus on most.
Not sure if they are Muslim or how the Malaysian brand of Islam looks on this, but, I cannot imagine a wife has any standing to block her man from a mistress or even a second wife.
I hope the man has the sense to divorce this creature he married. And hope he goes out of his way to comfort the mistress.

Standard Sunni Islam: men can have up to 4 wives, if they can afford them, and can divorce them basically at will. Women have to petition a shariah court, but this is easier than in some other Islamic countries.

Does this man feel no shame for cheating on his wife?
They should make a movie based on this, starring Bette Midler as the cheated-on wife, Danny Devito as the cheating husband and Meisa Kuroki as the mistress.

In a country where its legal to have multiple wives, why should he? That shame you are talking about is TOTALLY a product of your culture. It does not apply to him. In fact, you cannot even say he was cheating. Its not cheating in his culture. However, such a relationship out of wedlock might be a crime.
But by your cultural measure or even the measure of what is logical, the ones to feel shame here are the wife and her brother first and foremost and by a wide margin.

I think people should read up on the Islamic rules, as to when and how a man can take a 2nd, etc wife and under which conditions, etc as well as the treatment of their wifes(max of 4).
Honestly think people think that muslims are like Mormons and follow the same rules, far from it.
The wife and her family went way overboard, simple as that and thus should be punished accordingly.
