If this area is where the Taliban get their economic strength from, then they will not want to give up easily, especially as it may not be so easy to get it back again in the near future. Plus they have the memory of having been pushed out of Kabul and Afghanistan once before. If they are going to make a stand anywhere, then I wonder if this is going to be it.
Interesting to see that they have also recognized that ultimate victory will lie with the hearts and minds of the local population. American forces are here in Afghanistan just to create problems for Afghan people. This operation is to create problems for the villagers in winter weather.
