This is simply sad. Things are really getting bad down in Mexico.

And before those who blame America for the drug trafficing problem and say that we should legalize and tax it, let me ask a question. Do you honestly think an organization that will go so far as to blow up a car to inure Mexican police and first responders would actually convert over to legitmate business dealings and pay taxes on shipping drugs to the US if they becam legal? I highly doubt it.

Mexico needs to capture one or two high profile cartel leaders and put a bullet to the back of their head in public to make an example.

War on drugs is like any other war, it is one that it so hard to break down, its alot more easier talking with a country and coming to an agreement of sorts, it seems than it is with these drug lords!

Legalize it, would be like giving up and giving up is not an option...I think it's one of the most ridiculous "solutions" I have even heard of. How many ppl each yr die, of drug overdose, how many ppl suffer the consequences of a loved one who is an addict, how many innocent children lose a parent/s, how many children suffer and pay the consequences of the addict?...Shame ppl die in order to stand for their country, but also have to die because ppl want an easy way of life...easy money at the expense of so many lives, they are just as bad as any other murderer...I truly believe ppl who sale and distribute drugs, should get added to their sentence "murder"..sure no-one puts a gun to your head to take drugs but once your an addict, you don't care about anything but a fix...maybe if pre-meditated murder was added to their sentences it would help and make them think twice...

This is a good thing, or the unintended consequences of a good thing. The drug war is getting intense because, according to a news story I read recently, cocaine use has dropped 75% in the US since the 80s, and these cartels are fighting for the last bit of the remaining market. I'm afraid of what it may be like when it drops to 95%.

"cocaine use has dropped 75% in the US since the 80s"

I have no idea if that figure can be correct (and actually I doubt it), but it's certainly the opposite in Europe.

The attorney general says at least 24,800 people have been killed in drug gang violence since Calderon launched his military-led offensive in 2006.

I think they got Afghanistan beat. And people whine because they lost a few hundred soldiers in 9 years.

Mexico and Afghanistan the two most intractable and deadly “wars” taking place at the moment and guess what? They both have drugs as a back drop. All we need now are Catholic suicide bombers and then we will know the world is lost.

I don’t doubt that you read it but I do doubt that it is true. Sounds like government propaganda. I could imagine a drop the other way about, 25%, but not 75%.

The stat might be separating cocaine from crack. Then maybe there is a massive drop in cocaine and a massive spike in crack. But last I checked I think the crack rate has fallen, but I could be wrong.

Reyes said authorities later determined that the wounded man was not a policeman, although he was wearing a fake uniform. The man was among the three people who died in the attack.

    Suicide mission?

Superlib...yeah I was wondering about that as well...I looked up info on the 75% drop on cocaine since the 80's but found nothing...
