Sailwind, respect needs to be deserved as you well know, and I personally believe too may people are jumping on the "He served on the military THEREFORE he deserves respect" bandwagon.
Sen. McCain was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, was let's face it a pretty crap pilot and when I look at his past, I don't find a lot to be admired.
If you think differently, let it out.
Againm I have more respect for you than I have for Sen. McCain.
Military savvy and military experience are not qualifications for the presidency of a democracy. Grant was not the criterion. Grant was a reason why the military experience criterion is unimportant
Sailwind, I've got more admiration for you than I have for Sen. McCain.
No offense Sushi but I couldn't hold a candle to John McCain when it comes to service to ones country. I only ask one thing of you, hate the mans politics and post away but do not disparage the fact that the man was tortured and yet he was able to forgive his enemies.
That is beyond personal politics and speaks more volumes of the man than any partisan points posters want to make. I may not vote for the guy but I damn sure respect him for his personal character. You sure can't say that about Bush.
Heh, as if obama, who was a U.S. Senator for all of 143 days before throwing his hat into the ring for President, has the necessary "executive experience".
Military savvy and military experience are not qualifications for the presidency of a democracy.
Even if you don't say it's all that important, look at Mr. McCain's other credentials:
Been in the service to his country longer than obama.
Been in the Senate longer than obama.
He's been to Iraq and Afghanistan eight times more than obama;
So, Sez, explain what, if any, experience does obama have to be anything. He's totally inexperienced to be even a U.S. Senator, much less the CiC. Race is all that obama has going for him.
ramen, heh, you kinda forget the past eight years that the republican party got turned inside-out by Bush Co, and of course all the gay sex/ drug scandals the McCain has against him...
...and of course his advanced age.
The minds' eye can already see the Lemmings jostling for a place on the november clifftop, when the final bush supporters dissapear forever.
mccain has forgotten more that Obama knows, that comes with being nearly 80 years old. Give or take a decade.
mccain use to be alright until he got bushwhacked by rove and his henchmen in 2000. mccain has never recovered from that swiftboat attack, shame is that now he has become bush as he wants to be president before he gets too old. wait a minute, he is too old now.
Actually, verts, it's the democrat Lemmings who'll once again be marching off the cliff come Nov. 4th
Here's why: The dems are backing a candidate who is attempting to declare the conversation on his race over and in doing so, he and his supporters believe that they can play the racial guilt trip card on those who even remotely approach obama's race or heritage during the campaign.
During the 2004 election, the dems were proclaiming that only a military veteran like john kerry (who also served in Vietnam) was qualified to be president.
Now, four short years later, they are now denigrating a POW in that same conflict and professing that an inexperienced, community organizer is qualified to be president.
Yes, Eisenhower was a pretty good President. So what? I think I already mentioned that Democrats found nothing to disparage in his war record. Additionally they found little to disparage in his Presidency.
My point still stands--Grant and Eisenhower, two great generals. Only one of them was a good President. Military experience is not a criterion.
Politics has been defined as the "art of the possible". You ask what experience Obama has that would qualify him for the Presidency. I'd say that he has proven experience in redefining the possible and proven experience in enrolling support for the possibility he sees.

Sarge, tell us how many planes McCain either crashed, bailed out of or was shot down in.
Quit making things up to suit your agenda.

Sailwind, OK, I agree with you to a point - you are usually very to the point and I admire that.
Can I ask why you are not voting for McCain?

So, to recap,
During the 2004 election, the dems were proclaiming that only a military veteran like john kerry (who also served in Vietnam) was qualified to be president.
Now, four short years later, they are now denigrating a POW in that same conflict and professing that an inexperienced, community organizer is qualified to be president.
Heh, democrat Lemming Day fast approaches.

...yup, he's getting in a Panic. I guess I'll see you like I didn't see you in '06, when Senator Obama is elected by a republican weary public.

Romeo -
"Been in the service to his country longer than obama.
Been in the Senate longer than obama."
Moot point. McCain is OLDER than Obama.
Now it makes a lot of sense.... :-)
Oh, and Romeo, Sen. Kerry didn't cause anywhere near as much trouble for the U.S. military or his country as Sen. McCain did.
With thinking like yours, RepuLemming Day draws ever closer. :-)
