“For starters, their editorials are decidedly liberal. That’s a no-brainer. And there are often complaints that even their general reporting is biased in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. The New York Times has come to be associated with the Northeast liberal establishment.”

And if I went to the Washington Times I would expect the editorials to have a decidely conservative slant so what's the problem? There are no unbiased sources. Even those which only provide "instructional information," namely strictly factual information such as "yesterday it rained" have been edited. Someone made the decision not to include the fact the sun also appeared mid-day for 30 minutes.

When you move into evaluative information, and the majority of the NYT's carries material of that type, it requires more background information and education on the part of the reader. I enjoy reading the rebuttal letters to the NYT's because they are very well done.

What conservatives are really upset about is that the quality of their output is not of the caliber to appear in the NYT's, leading them to claim "discrimination." They conveniently overlook the fact the NYT's, in an effort to present the widest possible range of Op-Ed columnists, did hire neocon William Kristol earlier this year. Most readers, including this one, knew him primarily for his bad calls on Iraq, he led the "cakewalk crowd." But I always read his column....

McCain's campaign spokesperson is actually quite clever and witty -- unlike the three or four idiot 'Tony's the Bush party has sent through the wringer. It's fun to read the barbs of both sides.

It's not uncommon for the media to get into little fights like these. fox news has had an un-ending fight with reality since its inception.

"The presumptive Republican nominee has embarked on a bare-knuckled barrage"

Yeah, it's time to take the gloves off - the Democrats did a long time ago.

Hey, Taka, could you take your complaints about Fox News somewhere else? Thanks.

Well, to the extent that McCain is complaining that the New York Times is not fair and balanced (TM), I think it should be fair to point out that as the consultant of the article said it's not good to pointedly make enemies of the media. Fair and balanced is something that many people feel Fox News is not, but I doubt that there are many active so-called liberal politicians who would get in a kissing contest with Fox. (Oh, wait. That shouldn't be a "k".)
