I think McCain's proposal to suspend the liquidation requirement makes some sense. However, I wonder exactly who this will benefit.
Prudent investors who are anywhere near the required liquidation age will have the bulk of their investments in the money market, in bonds, in insurance funds and in blue-chip stocks. The conservative viewpoint is, usually, that imprudence should neither be rewarded nor indemnified.
The only real excuses for having significant investments in volatile stocks are that you have so little money that you need to bet it on long shots or that you have so much money that investing part of it is a good risk.
