I have nothing against McCain. Despite, according to the Los Angeles Times, being a less than stellar pilot, he still trundled off to Vietnam and fought for his country when others went AWOL (not mentioning any names GW). He also worked hard to represent the interests of the folks down in Arizona.
However, being over 70 is a big hurdle vis-a-vis becoming the President of the USA. Moreover, I think that the GOP have rightly shafted him (read payback) for all those years during which he was a "maverick." Palin as a running mate has to be a form of punishment. You cannot tell me that Palin represents the best choice as a VP. There is no way that Palin is fit to lead the country if McCain becomes unable to do so no matter how much the people spourting the GOP party line say otherwise.
As such, for better or worse, Obama by default?

debates are for kids. They are controlled.
what a waste of time.

timorborder: Well, it'll will be Obama... that much has been guaranteed, and you can only say 'by default' in respect to the way in which Obama has been guaranteed the White House via McCain's own stupidity. Beyond that, there are all sorts of other reasons why this should and will go to Obama.
As for the debate itself, I'm looking forward to it, but in reality it's not going to be a REAL debate; it'll be a whole lot of McCain never shutting up when his turn is done, criticizing Obama for his rebuttal after the topic is closed, and avoiding every question asked directly at him in exchange for character attacks on Obama and statements like, "...meanwhile if elected I will change the White House; I will put an end to bipartisan politics; I will clean up the economy," etc. with not a single word as to HOW he plans to do it (since he can't, and would merely follow bush in putting the country down the toilet).
Nonetheless, you can bet I'll be watching and laughing as Obama rips into McCain and McCain tries to keep himself from exploding.

"debates are for kids. They are controlled."
Which is why Governor Palin, like President Reagan did, talks past the liberal MSM moderators and speaks directly to America.
Let's hope Senator McCain does the same.

Ideally, this would be a good place for both candidates to offer contrasting plans to deal with the economy and other issues. In reality, they will both spout whatever is coming through their earpieces from their team of advisors, which will mostly be dirt about the other candidate. McCain will throw more dirt, I predict. When the debate is over, and the election is over, whoever gets elected will have a mess to deal with - that's for sure.

"There is no way that Palin is fit to lead the country if McCain becomes unable to do so"
Why not? She has more executive experience and accomplishments than the Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
"Obama has been guaranteed the White House"
It's official - the election is over! smithinjapan is never wrong on these matters!
"I'll be watching and laughing as Obama rips into McCain"
Yeah, like you did when Sarah Palin ripped into Biden?

sarge: "It's official - the election is over! smithinjapan is never wrong on these matters!"
Need I point out, again, your 3 or more comments yesterday in which you yourself pointed out that Obama has it in the bag? You said, and I quote, "God help us!" immediately after saying that it didn't matter what Palin/McCain did or said because the Democrats have already won.
Justice: 1 sarge: 0 (though points for finally admitting the truth)

sarge: "Yeah, like you did when Sarah Palin ripped into Biden?"
Sorry, bud... but Biden was the one doing the ripping. Sarah Palin could only change the topic and desperately avoid Biden's comments. She didn't ONCE stay on topic, sarge... not once!

Go Go Go McCain.
Bash Obama , and talk about his terror buddies and his traitor pastor.
McCain has experience and is loved by young and old, whereas Obama has shown by his friends, to have poor judgement.
Obama cannot debate his way out of the scandals surrounding him.
Obama, you are the weakest link, goodbye! Bwahahahaha

I was surprised that the republicans picked John McCain to be their candidate. Then the republicans just mind-boggled me by picking Sarah Palin. These are the best that the republican's could find to be possible leaders of the greatest nation in the Western Hemisphere?
Just because the republicans want to place less than desireable candidates up for consideration to be the leaders of the United States doesn't mean that they are the best. I can't believe that the republicans really believe these are the best.
Barack Obama will become our next president. < :-)

smith... "Sarah Palin could only change the topic"
You need to review the debate, smith. And read this: "You betcha Sarah Palin can debate" -

To bad this game isnt like monopoly were we as the players can do a do over and get two good candidates to run.. Ohh well at least I can count the amount of lies they tell during the debate...

I think the reason we don't see a debate is that Americans don't really want a debate. In general, I think we want an exchange of opinions on a smorgasbord of issues. And we want to see blood.
At least it seems that blood is what a lot of the JT crowd was after in the last debate. And there are varying opinions on who did the most bleeding. The majority of pundits say that Palin lost the most blood but got credit for bandaging well. But I suppose that these pundits are just liberal media tools. Too bad the other side, whatever they call themselves besides "patriotic Americans", can't get their own pundits placed in the media.
Whatever. The last debate wasn't. And Biden won. In the upcoming debate and contrary to what this article suggests, I think both sides would do well to steer clear of personal attacks. Obama is not a terrorist and he doesn't hate America. McCain is not now corrupt if he ever was. I doubt that there are many undecided people left, but to the extent there are, I'm sure they'd like to hear something that isn't silly.

MrDickMorris - do you think john mccain has stopped palling with terrorists?
Seems like mccain used to be linked to the U.S. Council for World Freedom, part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America.
Oh, and then there's that Keating 5 scandal mccain was wrapped up in.
MrDickMorris, don't you just wish the GOP had a True American Patriot lie Barack Obama?
What do you think mccain is going to say if Obama brings these up in the debate?

Sushisake3- yet more Liberal lies against McCain. There is no mud to stick on the guy. His hands are clean, he is a good guy.
Obama can bring up what he likes in the debate, he is the one who should be worried, heck!! the guy is friends with terrorists and US haters. Whata total dork !

MrDickMorris - "There is no mud to stick on the guy. His hands are clean, he is a good guy."
Yes, and Sarah Palin is the Mother Mary.
john mccain is sinking rapidly under the weight of his lies, all his polls are heading south and his selction of Sarah Palin is only hastening the well-deserved demise of the GOP.
mcain will get smashed in this debate, with or without a teleprompter.
john mccain needs to explain to the American people why he made out with terrorists and what the heck he is going to do about the tanking economy.
But I'm afraid he is just going to contine his 1-track, no hope loser strategy of blaming Obama for the latest economic meltdown, and other ludicrous and completely untrue claims.
Thankfully, more and more patriotic Americans are becoming comfortable with the idea of Barack Obama - a Real American (unlike that john mccain hick) - as is indicated by pretty much every poll going north for the next president of the United States - Barack Obama.
Nippon5 - well spotted! :-)

SushiSake3- Yet again you are wrong.
Fox News reported today the Obam'slead is now only 3% and McCain is ahead again in Ohio. Since the news of Obama's terrorist links appeared, McCains support is growing.
McCain is the master of dabates, Obama is styyle without substance.
Expect Obama's support to steadily crumble by the day.

MrDickMorris - "Expect Obama's support to steadily crumble by the day."
Sounds pretty clear you have no faith at all in john mccain.
That's great. You must be a Patriotic American. :-)

MrDickMorris - "Since the news of Obama's terrorist links appeared, McCains support is growing."
I'm sorry MrDickMorris, john mccain was in bed with more terrorists and bad guys - the Keating 5 and the U.S. Council for World Freedom, part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America.
Sorry you aren't prepared to face the truth, or the reality that john mccain is going down in flames.

Wait, time out.
MrDickMorris, are you seriously citing FOXNews as a reliable news source?
For the uninformed, FOXNews follows a rightist agenda and cannot be taken seriously. Same goes for MSNBC which follows a leftist agenda.
0
MrDickMorris
SushSake3- I watched O'Reilly, where he proved the facts about Obama's past clearly and in an unbiased manner.
Also McCain was cleared of any illegal activity with the Keating 5, just poor judgement. He has learnt from his errors with humility.
Obama will lose the debate of course, i just hope McCain brings up Obama's terrorist links, it will be so funny! Heh Heh.

MrDickMorris
moonbeams- What are you talking about. How can Fox News change polls taken by independent sources?
For unbiased news i views Fox News, BBC World or BBC News 24 (use VPN Gates).
The debate will follow the pattern of Palin's, the Democrat will be crushed, yeah, smashed!!

Just to thrust my two cents back into this... If you want neutral news, you should watch both CNN and FOX. CNN supports democrats, Fox only shows Republican news. Between the two, you can find some semblance of the real story.
When this whole thing started, most Republicans disliked McCain because he was considered too liberal. His voting record matched many liberal Democrats including on supporting abortion rights and gay marriage. He seems to have been nominated by way of getting liberal-minded republicans to support him as well as the unfortunate fact that republican opponents tried less hard than he did to reach ALL republicans.
When he started his campaign against Obama it was solely based off of the idea that he had experience while Obama didn't. he unfortunately got himself tied to Bush (which he didn't want) and like Hillary (who he thought he would be running against) figured that his long term experience would be enough to decide voters during a war situation. After all, he has been a soldier as well as being in the senate longer than any of the potential democratic front-runners.
Unfortunately, like Hilary, he misread what people wanted. They don't want to continue a bad war and a bad economy. People want a change, any change from the bad situation they are in.
Fast forward to Obama picking Biden. Now McCain's message of experience vs. Inexperience fell on deaf ears since Obama now has a safety-net Vice-President who has even more experience than McCain.
McCain's reaction: bypass Lieberman, the smart choice and go for Palin. No matter what his real reason might have been, the public sees this as reactionary and a shamefaced attempt to steal dissatisfied women from Hillary's campaign to his. He also changed his campaign to virtually mirror Obama's own ideals in order to muddy the waters further.
He should have stuck to his original tactics instead of mirroring Obama because it made him a wanna-be instead of the leader he claimed to be.
Finally, he has constantly said that he opposes pork spending He, along with Palin, have made that a cornerstone of their campaign. "John fights pork and vetoes any pork bills that come across his desk." Yet the 700 Bil.Bailout he also staked his campaign upon died thanks to his own republicans. The only way to get their 2/3rds vote was to slather it in pork. The world was watching this time, and news of the pork is everywhere, even here in J-Land. Now his claims of fighting pork look empty and his words even less effective.
So, all he has left is the swift-boat attacks. turn and turn again, he could have done better but he didn't. The Republican camp lock-steps to support him, but behind the lines, they must be weeping at each mistake he and Palin make. there are still a lot of poor, white people who would rather support a white president than a black one, but even they can't ignore losing their jobs and having their candidate ignore them or in the case of Michigan, abandon them.
Sure, McCain will come out cussing 'doggone its' at the debate, but the economic iceberg has already struck, and the S.S. McCain is taking on water fast. The unsinkable candidate he no longer is. It will take more than a tenuous connection to Ayers or Rezko to change opinions and more than a bull-dog with lipstick to keep him afloat. sorry hockey mom. Its back to the Troopergate hearing you will go.

I never lived in a bought house VS living in a rented house until after I got out of the military. My mother and grandmother, who raised me, never owned their own house. They rented for decades. Because they didn't want to buy.
You wouldn't believe the number of people who do rent. What about apartment renters? Same difference. Just they are willing to live on top of each other.
Start your own survey and see how many people you may know who actually rent. Might surprise you. < :-)

McCain is going down.
On another note, I am happy to see Sarah Palin the Republican VP candidate. Palin spells the end of the Republican cohesiveness. Palins position as VP illustrates that the Republican Guard have, as I have pointed out over the past years, taken over the party.
The lunatics are in charge of that Party.
Everytime Palin goes out there, everyone can see on full display how the anti-intellectual, anti-elite, anti-science, ant-Liberal (with a capital L) populist Right has turned against Washington and Wall Street. The Republican alliance is shattered.
Palin's ascendancy marks how the Republicans have turned themselves primarily into a regional party.
Obama's and the Democrats current lead in Virginia is reflective of the larger demographic trends in America,
And Republicans, with their entrenchment to the white Right, show how they are on the wrong side of the demographic trends in America.
Ironic that the Right, who reject evolution, are falling prey to one of its lesson's: Yesterdays advantage can turn to today's burden. Just like the Mamoth's oversized tusks. The Republican stranglehold on small town conservatisim has turned out to be small town conservatism's stranglehold on the party.
We are on the verge of a new Center/Left Coalition. The Reagan Revolution has run its course.
Right into a ditch.
I'm lovin it.

John McCain and his free trade intentions would advocate this I believe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hiPrsc9g98
He's been advocating this free trade from Mexico, right through the U. S. of A, right into Canada. < :-)

Good_Jorb
Of course he would, NAFTA forces Canada to sell 63% of it's oil to the USA at subsidies prices under the proportionality clause. It would be good for Canada's energy security, if a US president would move away from NAFTA. Then the US would have to pay market value for Canadian oil and Canada could sell it's oil to whomever it sees fit. Some how though, I would think that Canada would suddenly start a "WMD" building project and have alleged ties to Al Qaeda.
