I wonder what Calderon's critics would suggest? Go back to corrupt business as usual? I really wonder what goes through the minds of those who think it is better to not fight organized crime or terrorists.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke) The population must rise against this menace. It may be too late. Very scary situation for everyone except the bad guy. Time to declare martial law? Treason should be dealt with severely. The poor people.

This is where the US army should be fighting...the Mexican gangs have trained military guys and high-tech weapons. Regular cops don't stand a chance.

Governments war is flawed. Yes it is. They should do an all out offensive on these cartels not just arrest them. Letting them get away with murder of public servants is just leaving the country to the wolves.

La familia crazy and doped drug barons kill 12 federal agents to up their stake in billions dollar marijuana-cocaine industry.

I hear some of these bosses has 1000 billion dollars in wealth, almost as rich as Michael Jackson. Cartels fight cartels and govt federal agents fight cartels. Big money with billions at stake and millions addicted.

In an ongoing cycle the will pull down US,Mexico,Colombia,Brazil and South america. Same thing happening in Afghanistan drug financed war .

In past, South east asian wars ,the war financing ,had financing from drug wolves. This crazy drug-marijuana-opium industry, it thrives in chaos/war/misery.

In also pulling in asians, south east asians and afghans. More people should observe the addicts in asian, south east asia and elsewhere.

Its pulling down many police, federal agents and people. this marijuana-opium industry wolves.

Getting more people stoned is their idea of a better world.

Only clean drug free societies can progress good and in healthy manner.

No drug cartel, should do things like these and kill 12 federal agents.

Can't they exchange hostages or collect ransom money.

More people should observe the behaviour of the addicts in asia, south east asia and elsewhere." You know, I can honestly say I have never seen drug addicts anywhere in Asia. I am sure there are addicts, but haven't seen them out in the open like in the US.

Mexico needs to fight fire with fire.

Mexico has turned into 1980s Colombia. How can this be called anything but a civil war? Dozens of armed men attacking a police station, ambushing cops and federales on patrol....

It's a civil war, but they probably don't want to call it that for fear of destroying what little is left of Mexico's positive tourist image.

Can’t believe the lawlessness! And damn, I feel for the poor folks that reside in that part of the country. I think it’s time for Mexico to ask for a bit of help, these cartels are getting more fearless by the day. Obviously the Federales can’t handle this problem.

They need to figure out just who is corrupt among their ranks, first, if they ever want to be a step ahead in the game. As it is, they are two steps behind, and I reckon' that the pay isn't too high for Mexican police, whereas the gangs pay them off much more handsomlely. On that note, my guess is that a good deal of the force is in the pockets of gangsters.

As such, I think the Mex. government needs to ask for the help of the US. I don't know what they could do in return, but we know that violence has spilled over the border, and that would be reduced. It would be a great gesture by the US if they could work with and train/help the Mexican agents, who are badly suffering.

Critics are just that, critics. If asked point blank what they would do instead, they would have ZERO suggestions to offer.

Mexico should just declare drug trade legal and collect tax on it. This is the only thing they can do to improve the lives of Mexicans. And just think how happy it would make the liberals that come here trying to justify their drug use.
