Pretty scary stuff.

Did they show the part where he pushed a peanut down the avenue with his nose wearing a pointy hat and confession signs while young activists castigated him?

The unelected Chinese dictatorship have already abducted five people, yet where is the outrage? All this to prevent a book containing gossip about Xi Jinping being published.

Good grief ... what did the prosecutors do to get Gui Minhai to make such a confession? He goes on vacation in Thailand and ends up in China. What's the full ... and real ... story behind this? No wonder Taiwan "voted" to stay away from China. Who in their right mind would want to be under the thumb of such thugs.

despite only being sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence

So he had been tried and sentenced. And the sentence was suspended, meaning he had fully exercised his duties under Chinese law and was free to come and go as he pleased. He was not fleeing and had no reason to return or 'surrender'. This was a really poorly thought out story cooked up by the Chinese government. Who were they expecting to fool with that piece of nonsense?
