In the northern town of Kano, an armed mob at a bus station threatened an evangelical pastor before a Muslim man nearby spirited him to safety.

Amidst religious violence, one man stops to help another who is clearly not of his faith. Its things like this that give me hope for Islam.

@Molenir, that unfortunately is not a credit to Islam, but the credit to a good human being with an honourable soul. The teachings of Islam do not promote such actions at its core. There is a difference between Islam (the ideology) and muslims, which are people capable of making their own choices and what interpretation of Islam they are given.

That is what you say. Alas, there are believers all around the world who read precisely that from the life and sayings of their prophet.

So I hope that instead explaining your version to us unbelievers, you convince all those misunderstanders of this religion.

What a mess! Nigeria needs to break up, divide into 2 new countries, say one for Christians and another for Muslims, because all it takes is a couple of bastards from Alqaeda, the Taliban etc..to start a few riots and all hell breaks loose. Time to let them make 2 new countries like Sudan??

Go back a half millennium and if you were in the minority religion, you would certainly have preferred living under the Caliphate that under the Pope. What was has changed; what is will change. For all the permanence religions may pretend to, they too change with the times.

Islam is not monolithic, nor is its characteristics permanent.

That´s a silly comparison, because the Pope is not supposed to be the worldly ruler of all Christians, and he never was. There were all sorts of kingdoms in the Christian world, and how you lived would vary wildly.

Although, with your misfired comparison, you have put your finger on a fundamental difference. It is true that Islam has never accepted this division between church and state. Whereever you have fundamentalist imams preaching the Koran, you have call for Shariah and the Caliphate.

That is why Northern Nigeria is so similar to other shariah hellholes. And as everywhere, the riots tend to start on Friday after prayers.
