Even flour or sawdust can "explode". What the heck were they using?

I'm really curious as to what they were using too? Seriously need to check the flammability of whatever they used. Things like this aren't supposed to happen if folks pay attention to what they're doing. Sad, and I hope they hold whoever was responsible for this accountable.

Wow, that's like an accidental thermobaric bomb.

Somebody definitely didn't check the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) on whatever powder they were using.

Science101, any power fine enough can ignite. Flour, sawdust, chalk, it's why miners spray water everywhere to keep the dust from spreading.

Hopefully these stupid throw colored printer toner on people events will stop now, it certainly cant be good to breath in,

Wow! I've seen the video on television. It was bizarre!

Anything turned into a powder when spread in open air can be a EXTREME explosion and fire hazard, as the Discovery Channel series Mythbusters clearly showed when they sprayed a large amount of coffee creamer into the air and then lit it with relatively small flame. That's why in grain silos, they have to be very careful handling grain because wheat dust is an extreme explosion hazard.

As such, what happened in Taiwan was that when the colored powder was spread into the air, there was some sort of spark that lit the whole cloud of dust off in a very frightening fashion. They were lucky that nobody was killed--so far!
