Interesting development. Murdoch Media reshaping their own policy from Step-parent to Good Guardian of China-India.

Somehow, I don't see the Chinese communist party or the caste system disappearing very soon.

that's a scary but not overly impossible. What scares me about both of these countries taking over is the fact that China is well, Chinese. I feel the they are no much different than Japanese when dealing with races. India is the same, even though they themselves are pretty much a multitude of races for the most part.

Murdoch is pure businessman, the question should be asked first:what benefit, profit he will make by promoting this idea.

skipthesong's racist comment"? Yeah, right. Tell me, how many people in China that are not oriental are considered Chinese by Chinese? JFYI, I happen to be Caribbean. Tell me, am I not allowed to be concerned?
The only racist here is you Tell us, where and how is my post racist?

skipthesong your Caribean-ness does not mean you don't say racist things. You seem to imply in your original post that the problem with China and India are the people of China and India. If you meant something else [like how the Chinese government mistreats minorities within its borders] then take care in what you say lest you be misunderstood.
As for not being Chinese or Indian, well we are not Americans either and we are constantly reminded how much better off they are. The imposition of the American Way is a form of cultural imperialism which individuals can do very little to change. I am suggesting that what you find scary is already happening: don't believe me? Start kicking against the American Way and find out how far you get.
Whether it is America or someone else there will always be some leviathan power.

if it is 'imperialism' exactly who is the guiding hand? did i miss something in civics class? is their a culture czar in the president's cabinet?
no one in America forces japan today to fill its 'world section' with the amount of American stories you see;nor is anybody forcing you to comment on them.
name some names.

I've thought about that, too, for example how they'll handle competitive bidding from foreign companies or if their business structure will be set up like the Japanese with all of the companies and the government in bed with each other, thereby locking out "foreigners." The female gymnasts and the age scandal made it obvious that problems with transparency could arise, too. No one was really able to confirm anything and we were left to take them at their word even tho it was obvious they weren't being honest. But they've already shown a willingness to import, and a lot of their major projects are done with the supervision of foreign firms, like their Olympic stadium and other real estate projects.
China will be interesting overall as the world watches them manage bringing 1.3 billion people into the 21st century. I remember riding in a taxi in Tianjin through the outskirts of the city of dirt roads watching horses with carts thinking of the massive, massive, massive infrastructure investments China will have to make over the next few decades.
They still don't have much in terms of regulations and consumer safety which is another area they'll have to manage for over a billion people. One incident involving tainted milk put thousands of babies in the hospital which shows how the numbers game can make a sudden health scare impact such a large amount of people so quickly. They still use massive amounts of coal which is having an impact on the environment with acid rain and other health issues and their coal mines alone kill an average of 13 people every day. Overall it's going to be interesting how they manage things that can have a negative impact on a scale that Western countries can't even imagine.

buddha: "your Caribean-ness does not mean you don't say racist things." Of course not. Just thought that perhaps you had me confused with one of those white, anglo, types.
You seem to imply in your original post that the problem with China and India are the people of China and India." I have always looked up to Chinese and Indians, until I went to both of those countries. Admit, I had a few issues with many things.. irrevelvent for now.
If you meant something else [like how the Chinese government mistreats minorities within its borders] then take care in what you say lest you be misunderstood." Well that too. Had those people been oriental, I think they would have followed the status quo. Talking with an old girlfriend I asked what was up with that issue, and her reply was "well, they really aren't Chinese so they should either go back to where ever they came from originally or conform" Asked her if they would be considered Chinese if they do conform and she said "of course not".
As for not being Chinese or Indian, well we are not Americans either and we are constantly reminded how much better off they are." better off as opposed to better we are.. I increasingly hear a lot for Chinese how powerful, smart, how their their traditions are, how much they have done for the world before modern times, etc... I am a bit concerned because we are just now starting to touch that in the states. Last thing we need now is for it to pop up somewhere else.
The imposition of the American Way is a form of cultural imperialism which individuals can do very little to change. I am suggesting that what you find scary is already happening: don't believe me? Start kicking against the American Way and find out how far you get." If I ever learn exactly what that is, perhaps I'll kick against it. Right now though, I find things all over the place. Need to have a target to kick wouldn't you?
Whether it is America or someone else there will always be some leviathan power." Well, if you like the idea of China taking America's place, great for you.
My point was that, as you went off about America, let me see one person within the Chinese government who is not oriental. Please show me if a kid born there can obtain Chinese nationality (case in point about the half Philippians kid in Japan whose mother had died and has no nationality in Japan). Yes, I think Chinese and Japanese think a lot a like in terms of race and country.

Get ready to accept China and India as economic powers of the future." Oh, no objections to them being economic power houses. I hope they don't up the world's policeman once the US is gone.

Murdoch on terrorism.
Never mind that vast majority of deaths so far in Afghanistan are those of the locals, with most of the explosions from coalition munitions dropped from planes and delivered by so called smart weapons like drones. A large majority of the most recent casualties have been local women and children killed by US missile strikes on their villages.
As for Russia and Georgia the fact remains that it was Georgia that fired the first shots were Georgian troops in Ossetia upon unarmed civilian residents of apartment blocks. and those first shots that did the most damage were from heavy weaponry, fore mostly Georgian tanks. The UN is currently investigating evidence of war crimes by Georgia in those first days that resulted in Russia sending in its own armed forces.
Murdoch is a parasite.

skip Ok I better understand your position. I'll get off my high-horse.
My rather obtuse point about American (or any other) cultural imperialism is that there will always be one. It is rather difficult to define American cultural imperialism because it is so pervasive; kind of like a fish trying to understand the influence of water (or even more basic the concept of water).
As for predicting how the Chinese or the Indians would act as world leaders is a bit difficult to divine. Go back 10 years ago before Monica and Clinton was prez., very few would have imagined the last 8 years under Bush. No one even knows what is going to happen this week and how the election in the US will after world events. India has had its Gandhi and may have another in the offing. China has had many unsung martyrs for freedom, one day a leader will may rise from among their ranks. I am less concerned about who rises and who falls and more concerned, like you, with the structure of that power. Bush & Cheney have shown the limitations of even the best of ideals.

Too many long comments here that do not go to the theme of China and India reshaping the world. I, for one, look forward to doing lot's of business with both of these countries.

USA's economy is in tatters for years to come, most investors will give south america a miss, europe is very protective of their economic boundries, most of african continent are rather unstable and arabian countries has got its limitations, so naturally the choice goes to asia. with china and india's economic engines goes into higher gear, i dont see mr murdoch business acumen wrong.
