I hope she is grateful for growing up and living in a stable country that pays her to teach, allows her the freedom to choose her religion, allows her to express her opinions in public forums, and allows people to challenge her opinions.

Does she think she would have these freedoms in a Muslim country? How about Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of the Sunnis?

She's free as an Australian to choose her allegiances, but ask her if she identifies first as a member of the umaah, or as a citizen of Australia.

How can anyone read that headline with a straight face and not think her a narcissist? All that will do is encourage more tweets that she can point at and whine about how she's so oppressed in evil racist Australia. I have no doubt that if anyone tries to call her out over this shameless self-promotion, she would point to that too as an example of abuse.

It's up to her. What she has done for to get such as hate mail in her email? Australia has Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs and other faith followers but only Muslims have problem and complaint. Actually, Muslims do not fit in ordinary society and they only fit in Muslim society. Muslims should migrate to Muslim countries.

After the Paris Attacks of yesterday, she will be getting more hate mails from all over the world. Hope she will be able to catch up with the donations to UNICEF as she said she would. Appreciate her good intention for the good cause, however.

What she has done for to get such as hate mail in her email?

Existing as a Muslim of course. That's more than enough people. For example, even though she's a non-violent, non-extremist Muslim, she has to listen to statements like this:

Muslims do not fit in ordinary society and they only fit in Muslim society. Muslims should migrate to Muslim countries.

So many westerners complain about not being accepted in Japan, and hate being told 'if you don't like it, go home', then they turn around and issue statements like 'Muslims should leave their homes and go to Muslim countries'. The hypocrisy is revolting.

Ever the us-vs-them. Why don't you just let this lady practice her religion in peace? You are part of the problem here.

Thiis might not be such a good idea for her.

In fact it could lead to bankrupcy.

ver the us-vs-them. Why don't you just let this lady practice her religion in peace? You are part of the problem here.

My question re her allegiances was asked to see if she thought she would have the same freedoms in a Muslim country. Absent any dialogue, absent the ability to ask questions, it's impossible to have mutual understanding and makes practicing anything in peace impossible.

If you think that's an us v. them that's your interpretation. I’m responsible for what I say, not how you understand it.

What is her twitter account? Lets send her lots of "hateful tweets" (whatever that is).... it is a way to donate to charity without paying for it.

In the event, this looks like a progapanda stint.

I suspect that she will have to reduce her donations to maybe 25c per twit.

How is this in any way a relevant question?

Oh, I understood you just fine. Your obvious implication was that she would have to choose between her allegiance to her religion and her nationality. Don't pretend you meant something else.

I do not know anything about Susan Carland but her show of pointing out the shameful but legal exercise of free speech is in stark contrast to the actual heinous and obviously criminal acts of people that at least in name share her religious beliefs. As a member of the elite in Australia she is no victim in any real sense. She could stop these ill words by agitating for the end of Islamic inspired violence. What is frustrating to many non-Muslims is the reluctance of many Muslims to take any genuine steps to counter Islamic terrorism. I can understand her extreme discomfort with being pilloried by toxic words but she puts herself out there. Her response in making this into a charitable exercise indicates that she is a grown up who can handle the heat.

You know what I didn't read in that article? Her condemnation of the Paris terrorist attacks. Oh, well...I guess it must she must be too traumatized dealing with hateful email to see that her religion enjoys blowing people up who disagree with it. Nice, though, that she can have her religious freedom, isn't it!

Yeah! Why wasn't she able to read the future to see them coming, and condemn them before they ever happened? Pathetic.

OK

1000+ hate mail messages and she's "no victim in any real sense"? Does somebody have to physically assault her before you take this seriously?

She could stop these ill words by agitating for the end of Islamic inspired violence.

1) We live in a world where simply being female and prominent on social media or the internet nets you rape and death threats, and you think this will stop if she denounces terrorism? Fat chance.

2) You "know nothing" about her, so how do you know she hasn't already?

but she puts herself out there.

What, by having a twitter account?

Thank you for sharing your mind reading skills, sanctimony and anger, but you're way off base. My point, and I give two anythings if you don't believe it, was that dialogue needs to occur, which starts with asking questions; something you don't seem to want to allow because you have all answers.

I’m responsible for what I say, not how you understand it. By the way, please share with JT the actions you're taking to improve understanding, peace and harmony.

@Triumvere

Does somebody have to physically assault her before you take this seriously?

Pretty much.

What, by having a twitter account?

If she is in fear of physical assault would it not make sense to forsake opining in public. That is common sense. However she obviously does not fear for her safety as she is publicizing her situation and making it into a charity event.

Nice assumption that all Westerners are the same person. The people who whine about xenophobia in Japan are not the same people who say Muslim culture should stay in Muslim countries. If anything, they're sympathetic to the Japanese who have to put up with Westerners looking to be offended and play the victim.
