This is great 'halal' donation, no misuse please.

"Muslims donate nearly $1 billion to Pakistan flood relief."

This can't be true.

By reading weeks of anti-Islam/anti-Muslim posts by U.S. conservatives on this site, I could have been fooled into believing ALL Muslims were terrorists or terrorist wannabees.

You can pledge all you want but until the check is written it doesn't mean much. I don't think the Pakistanis will be seeing much of this money, at least the ones who are in need.

What's new? Most pledges of financial support fall short.

"It ( the aid ) will come through their NGOs and they will eat half of it."

Freakin' NGOs!

Whatever money eventually arrives in the country, as opposed to PR-based pledges, will just be spending money for corrupt officials, politicians and the Military in Pakistan.

If the foreign NGOs will "eat half of it," corruption will account for most of the rest!

Good for them! It's about time they take care of their own, instead of blowing up their own.

The international Left - always optimists!! This is a good move by the Islamic nations.

It's pretty clear from this thread that, despite what you may believe, Muslims are not terrorists. As such your comment seems pretty immature. It's not just 'Islamic nations' that are coughing up money while the US in general gives not even a fraction of what they gave for Haiti (and even then Right-wing nuts and radio jockeys were saying they shouldn't give money if the President suggested you do), it's organizations and individuals in non-Muslim nations as well. But, hey, if you couldn't read past the headline and are trapped in your own subjective judgements, I can see how you'd miss the obvious.

smithinjapan, the US gives a lot more than you think. More importantly, just like in the case of the tsunami in 2004, it is the US and its military that provides the logistics of getting the stuff to the people that really need it. That costs a lot, and as in the case I mentioned, money was taken from operational forces (i.e. warfighting) to cover the costs of support on the massive scale in 2004.

It's pretty clear from this thread that, despite what you may believe, Muslims are not terrorists.

Ask the Algerians and other nations that have had violence visited on the population by other Muslims. Yes not all Muslims are terrorists, but they do kill more of their own than non-Muslims. I guess that whole Ottoman Empire/Arab conflict in Palestine and Arabia during WWI is just a footnote to you.

But I am glad that they are stepping up and helping out. You would think that the Saudi's would have come out with a large donation and made it public for better PR, but I guess that is just asking too much.

smithinjapan ignoring facts in order to make a false cry of "racism". The usual tactic of the "progressives".

of christians, buddhists, and Jews as suicide bombers? - probably zero. of Muslim suicide bombers - alot

It's not a blanket indictment of Islam. It's just a sad fact about Islamofascists in the M.E.

It is good that the Ummah, during this Holy Month of Ramadan, fulfill their duty to those less fortunate.

One can only pray that it involves educating the unknowing who spread hatred like:

Good for them! It's about time they take care of their own, instead of blowing up their own.

Islam is a religion and it comes in many flavors. Most Muslims are peace loving people. A minority is misguided and resorts to terrorism, unfortunately. Muslims are humans and those muslims suffering in Pakistan right now deserve all the aid they can get. Middle eastern nations pledging support is a good development. But the amounts NGOs seem to 'suck up' is disconcerting.

“Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani criticized donations made to foreign NGOs rather than the Pakistani government Sunday, saying much of the money would be wasted

“Eighty percent of the aid will not come to you directly,” said Gilani, referring to Pakistani citizens.

“It will come through their NGOs, and they will eat half of it,” he said during a press conference in his hometown of Multan.”

The reason is that most people don’t want their money going to the corrupt Pakistani government. Gilani is just angry that he isn’t going to get his hands on as much because the NGOs will stop him and his kind from robbing his own people, again.

“Muslim countries, organizations and individuals have pledged nearly $1 billion in cash and relief supplies”

One billion mat sound a lot (to those of us who don’t have it) but if you think about it and break it down to who is giving what, it really doesn’t amount to that much. Also, now that the “Muslims” have been crass enough to say how much they have given can we not now have a none Muslim figure given to show just how mean and nasty those none Muslim are being (yet again) to those peace loving Muslims?

After seeing Pakistani people shrieking at the US for not helping enough, after hating them for just about everything elsewhere, I can understand why the Yanks were less than happy forking out for Pakistan's flood crisis.

Muslims helping muslims...life is as it should be.

By reading weeks of anti-Islam/anti-Muslim posts by U.S. conservatives on this site, I could have been fooled into believing ALL Muslims were terrorists or terrorist wannabees.

So, all it took was people pointing out that the Muslim countries as usual failed to make any significant contributions in aid, and they finally get off their ass and realize, oh wait, these are fellow Muslims, maybe we should actually help them for a change.

I believe my first comment at the beginning of all of this was, "They'll hate us for it anyway." In all reality if we had a massive aid package and support they'd be complaining that the US is just trying to buy influence. At the end of the day it's going to be a thankless job, but it has to be done.

It is nice to see these pledges. It would be nice to see similar pledges from islamic nations to disasters in non-islamic countries; but that is something we don´t see.

The opposite it's also true. No one knows where is the money for the reconstruction on Irak. ;-)
