It's really amazing how a tiny lady as Ms Suu Kyi with a voice scare the pants offs the Myanmar military ' What are they afraid of i wonder ' What paranoid generals they have ' ha ha ha
These paranoid generals may be total j&rks, but they are familiar with the concept 'The word is mightier than the sword' and they know that if they allow her to go free they are signing their own death sentence.
Just a routine...and she must be used to house-arrest life style..similar to japan imposing sanctions on NK and extending every six months. It doesn't matter.

Actually, the generals know Suu Kyi's ability to lead the country and it's people towards a fully democratic Union of Burma. That kind of consequence is the nightmare for Burmese generals and the Chinese who are benefiting from them. But interestingly enough, when Suu Kyi's party won the landslide victory at the general elections by 82% majority, it was China who congratulated her party, first. Two-faced animals they are.
The Amnesty International pointed out today that some countries are at FLASH POINT in Human Rights Violations. At the TOP of the list in Asia is BURMA/Myanmar. The way cyclone victims were treated by junta there is an extreme example of human rights abuses.
UN's 60 year old 'Universal Declaration of Human Rights' must be a joke. The UDHR states at article (9) that "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention and exile."
Under present regime, neither Suu Kyi nor the cyclone victims (no one, for that matter) has the right to complain against the so-called government's failure to observe the UDHR, let alone the country's own LAW.(thanks to China's leaders).
Suu kyi has been under house arrest off and on for the last 18 years without any trial or formal charges. Burma /Myanmar is a lawless country where citizens has no protection from state abuses . The world has become increasingly aware of this. If the UN failed again, people of Burma will have to solve their problems by themselves at the cost of many more Burmese lives.
Hassan Wirayuda of Indonesia expressed his deep regret on Burmese regime's decision to extend Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's house arrest for yet another year (the 6th year). He said he was hoping and praying that the regime in Burma would show it's gratitude to the helping hands of the world ( on cyclone aid ) by freeing the Nobel Prize winner and start the meaningful dialogue of national reconciliation, participated by the elected political parties, ethnic nationals and the military junta.
Burmese junta 's mindset is now growing through arrogant, inhuman, stubborn, greed for power&wealth to the point of MADNESS.Basiccaly it challenges the world :OK i am like this, what CAN you guys do about it, heh?Dare to touch a single of my hair?
Burmese junta is breaking it's own Law (if there is any law left in the country). According to Burmese Law, a person cannot be detained more than 5 years without a trial. Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained under house arrest since May 2003, without trial.

Isn't the saying, "The PEN is mightier than the sword?" E. B. Lytton, no?

I wonder why they don't execute her? It doesn't seem they care about any domestic or international opinion on any matter.

My quote is a variation on that. Google it!

This is obscene. I find this almost as frustrating as the cyclone debacle.
williamsmith,
They can't execute her: she's Aung San's daughter. Its about the only thing that would cause the Burmese people to rise up and overthrow the junta.

These thugs will never negotiate with Suu Kyi or release her because it would cost them their grip on power.
