If these were political prisoners, then good move, looks like Myanmar wants to join the rest of the world.
If they were actual criminals, then the government is just trying to secure some votes.

Among them only about half a dozen are political prisoners. Most of them are drug-dealers and petty criminals.
There are more than 2000 POLITICAL PRISONERS still remaining in Myanmar prisons, including Aung San Suu Kyi , ethinic political leaders like Khun Tun Oo, elected NLD leaders and '88 generanation students group led by Min Ko Naing.
This exercise by the junta is design to relieve the pressure from the world as the UN generals assembly is commencing in a few days time..

These "seven political prisoners" who were freed yesterday by Myanmar authorities have been long overdue to be freed. They already have severed their " full " prison terms more than three years ago, but the junta decided to keep them inside anyway with arbitrary cases. So there is a big "NO THANKS" for "NOTHING"..........
