And how many mouths could they have fed or supported with that money? Whats wrong with giving the man a normal funeral, or (if they must) a military funeral?

So at the start of his regime, he already declares that the military will have priority over the masses.

I pity the citizens of NR.

And what's with the building? Are those offices up there? If so, how unconvenient it seems to go to the next tool, err, tower.

Wow, I have never seen so many people together. That monument is impressive too. So, let's hope the new leader will do its best for the livelihood of the North Korean people. Please don't let anyone go hungry anymore would be my strongest wish.

North Korea Intellectuals Solidarity (NKIS) says that a popular North Korean children's song has been changed to include satirical references to the Kim family dynasty and the new version is spreading in North Korea. NKIS revealed, "The lyrics of a children's song satirizing Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Eun have been found in a classroom and the restroom at Osandeok Senior Middle School." The children's song is a well-known one in South Korea called "Three Bears." The re-written lyrics of the song are as follows: "Three bears in a house, pocketing everything; grandpa bear, papa bear and baby bear. Grandpa Bear is fat, Papa Bear is fat, too, and Baby Bear is a doofus." According to NKIS, in one case students from Haebang Senior Middle School were caught and beaten overnight by National Security Agency agents because they sang the song to the tune of a guitar. Even though parents try to stop children from singing like that, kids just enjoy it and cannot easily be stopped.

With all those fake tears and the children's songs, NK people might not be so brainwashed after all. But still, many children are too hungry and too weak to sing and laugh.

many children are too hungry and too weak to sing and laugh

I think this may be exactly the reason why the children are having fun at the song, because they can't have fun at anything else.

Thing is, when people realize what is really happening, the government would have them behind bars for being "subversive".

Lincoln Continental behind lead vehicle, eh? Stylin'!

They will not put the kids behind bars...but their parents for letting them sing this funny song is a given.

"Kim Jong-Un, who is in his late 20s"

Don't they know exactly how old he is? Maybe Donald Trump can help find his birth certificate.

I'd like to see everyone introduced this way:

Tomoni Itano, who is in her early 20s...

Norika Fujiwara, who is around 40...

And what's with the building?

Elvinsilven, Google Earth Pyongyang - specifically, the main entrances into the city over the river - and you'll see an avenue twenty stories high and one apartment thick, which looks a whole lot more impressive on the ground, I assume. Google Earth further and you'll see a nation denuded of trees, resembling the Mojave more than Aomori, which is what it should look like. Google Earth the few pathetic bridges linking NK to China over the Yalu, their only link to the world.

Watching coverage of the funeral, I had to ask: Why no one except some military types were wearing hats? It's freezing cold and snowing blizzards....but no hats! Can no one afford a hat? (guessing no). It is bad taste to wear a hat to an outdoor funeral? I wonder if all those invited foreign guests stuck in a stadium were wearing their hats? NK...just too strange.

@Blair,

I have been following your interesting posts as always.. Again your childrens song (Grandpa Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear) weblink is very interesting to read.

The US food aid to NK people was on the way when the leader Kim Jong-Il was suddenly announced. I do not know what had happend to the food aid now. I hope people are not going to starve to death during this winter..
