Very nice of the NKoreans to blow up a cooling tower that was shut down a long time ago and not in use. Perhaps they could blow up Kim Jong Il as
a symbolic gesture as well.
USN,
Thanks for the information. Did the U.S. actually send in EO guys to do the job? That would be one crazy TAD trip, don't you think? Those guys are used to going to work in the morning knowing they might not come home, but a trip to N. Korea puts a whole new spin on that concept!
Not sure which branch of the US government the demolition team belonged to but they were American. They actually may even have been contracted civilians but the point is the entire operation was paid for and executed by the US. Kinda cool how we're letting the North Koreans take credit for this successful and symbolic action...

Um, it what shut down in 2007 as part of the agreement. Now that the agreement has been finalized they destroyed it completely. It means North Korea cannot open it up again and start it as they've done in the past during negotiations. It's a pretty significant step forward.
are there other cooling towers or structures that provide redundancy? otherwise it is more than a symbolic gesture. If they had some secret way to dissipate heat, it would be hard to keep that way due to satellites and US spies taking air/soil samples.
all of this drama going on at the same time that all other "nuclear" nations keep developing and improving their own WMD's... what hypocrisy.
A symbolic gesture for a beggar President in need of some diplomatic gift to hang his legacy on - even if it is from a despot. Now in just 45 days NK won't be part of the Axis of Evil. Remarkably easy when you consider the price Iraq is paying.
The only question that remains is how much further can the beggar Bush sink in the short time remaining.

FYI, the controlled demolition was paid for and carried out by the U.S.

george bush could have had this 5 to 7 years ago. But remember he doesn't talk to enemies. What a waste in time and energies. < :-)

Hypocrisy beats utter stupidity in my book.
