Uh oh. It sounds like North Korea is gearing up again to demand a new payoff not to obliterate South Korea and Japan. Every time the North starts firing missiles and acting belligerent, they seem to end up with a few hundred million dollars before the year is out. The Dear Leader must have burned through the last "allowance" already.
I doubt that these missiles were any kind of threat, but overall, NK seems to be backpedalling on its nuclear promises and expelling foreigners again, indicating another upcoming round of aggressive begging.
I'm sure that China, the US and Russia will cough up more appeasement money for Kim Jong Il again in exchange for promises to behave, and Japan will win out once again not having to pay anything because of the abductees. The interesting thing will be to see how South Korea under Zainichi President Lee responds - I suspect this might actually be a measured test of his policies. Will he attach stricter conditions to payment of extortion money, or even go whole hog and ask NK to behave like Japan is and not pay at all? Even if NK can make a bomb, I doubt it is capable of launching and delivering it. The sunshine policy should have ended with Kim Dae - and the world should be screwing down on the North Korean government to make it collapse, and require that foreign aid for North Korean citizens be provided directly in NK by foreign aid agencies. Hopefully with President Lee in power, we will start to see that happen now.

Not that North Korea is a threat to anyone or there is any real threat of attack on NK, but they probably still do military exercises.

As usual the NK regime knows that military drills are far more important than the people getting food.

"Not that North Korea is a threat to anyone"
Except to their own people, but who cares about them. They're not me. :)
