"Professor Kim Yong-Hyun of Dongguk University said the North would ratchet up tension but it would stop short of conducting another nuclear test to avoid further alienating its main ally and economic benefactor, China." - article

China can cut the strings of its puppet any time.

" and vowed to take strong retaliatory measures."

Like, when don't they?

I'd be more worried about any U.S. citizens that are currently incarcerated in North Korea (and any U.S. citizens foolish enough to visit it in the future) like Otto Warmbier.

No country that flies into hysterics when their leader is criticized can be expected to have a long or sustainable future.

actually a "war" would be preferable to wipe their leadership off the planet and free their population from decades of Animal Farm

China can end this nonsense anytime they choose. But they choose not to.

warning that the North would instantly cut off “every lever and channel for diplomatic contact” between the two countries if the U.S. failed to do so.

I do hope they actually do this. Then we can be spared of their hysterical shrieking every time they spit the dummy.

I agree, but then we might not have this.

“The US dared challenge the dignity of the DPRK supreme leadership, an act reminiscent of a new-born puppy knowing no fear of a tiger,” the statement said, using the official acronym for North Korea.

Who's the puppy and who's the tiger?

"The Supreme Leader will teach the cowardly little American dogs a big lesson. The sky will turn red, blood will run, and people will speak the Dear Leader's stomping of US insects for 1000s of years. The oceans will be emptied and filled bile acid. The soil will be rich with the bodies of fat weak Americans. We will crush America and all her allies and rule the world!"

"By the way...do you think you can send us a few truckloads of rice? We'll promise not to fire many missiles for a few days."

Yawn, and if they declare war..... what will they do really. Anything beyond conventional means will mean their total obliteration.

Sadly, North Korea has defied this reasoning in a way now nonexistent East Germany, Tibet, and even the Soviet Union were unable to do. I agree, but they really seem bent on dragging the inevitable out for as long as possible.

actually a "war" would be preferable to wipe their leadership off the planet and free their population from decades of Animal Farm

I don't think the people of Seoul would agree with that assessment, particularly since they would take the brunt of the opening salvo. Also, I can assure you that North Korean leadership would not be the portion of the population doing the front-line fighting. As is the case with most tyrannies, it usually isn't the leadership that bleeds for the nation.

Well now he Has declared war, Nuke him and every body in His country. Well just little Fat boy himself.as his people have suffered enough under him.

The important questions to ask is why did the USA of all times now declare N Korea and its leader as world's enemy because of Human rights abuses? Why not when the rocket tests?

Obama and his administration has regularly used N Korea, as has China, as "cover" a "distraction" to domestic problems and or other action being taken abroad that may get domestic or international scrutiny. For all we know, USA knows China is using N Korea, so in turn used N Korea's inherent threatening to escalate so as to justify the placement of missiles in S Korea. The real intent may be "contain" China as Obama likes to say. If China threatens SE Asia, then USA will go closer to S Korea and place immediate threat.

Just as China needs N Korea as cover for their activities in SE Asia and the China Sea, USA needs N Korea to justify its presence in S Korea to prevent China from easily taking over N and S Korea and have access to the Pacific via Sea of Japan. It is because of Japan and S Korea that China must pursue S China Sea. It is because of Japan and S Korea that they have yet to invade Taiwan.

(The current bombing incident in Taiwan, may be a sign that such a conflict is about to occur. If not externally by China, then internally using people in Taiwan "close" to China and its interests. Blaming on "terrorists" is another good cover and distraction, a deception for China.)

For all we know Kim in N Korea is stuck between two anvils and the only way is to "scream" "help" by using threats and threatening action.Meanwhile China and USA plays N Korea for all it is worth. And who is losing? Only N Korea is long from all of this. Why?
