What a sad anniversary. Seventy years of oppression, cruelty, starvation, torture, thought control, spying, etc. And the future looks like more of the same, only worse. I wonder if Kim Jong Un and his strutting generals know how ludicrous they appear to the rest of the world?

So, we'll fool around trying to overthrow Assad in Syria, but leave lil' Kim to keep Korea separated.... I really wonder what our government is doing when it can't figure the best ways to resolve blatantly obvious problems like NK.

In case you forgot HonestDictator, attempting to democratize the Korean Peninsular already failed once.

North Korea is a failed state.

"Kim Jong Un declared Saturday that his country was ready to stand up to any threat posed by the United States"

That's bogus, the North Koreans cannot possibly hope to withstand a full-scale U.S. military assault. But no worries, there won't be any such thing, so long as the North Koreans aren't dumb enough to launch any nuclear tipped missiles at the U.S.

North Korea is not a failed state. Libya and Yemen are failed states. Sadly, NK is controlled by a well organized and thus far stable dictatorship.

@wolf. (True about Yemen/Libya). What I meant was that this reclusive state really lags behind the rest of the modern world. Winter coming soon. We set our Cenral Air to comfortably warm temps . . . while they bust out firewood and coal.

How about a battle of the bands? Moranbong Band vs Girl's Generation. I'd pay 100 euros to see that.
