People get offended about any little thing these days. There was nothing said that was offensive. Freedom of speech is going down the tubes fast in America...

I've read worse by JT posters who have issues with the prez's skin complexion, but were a little more slick about it..or so they thought.

what about that NBA TV guy Rick Kamala who called Yi Jianlian "Chinaman"? that dude should definitely get suspended if these two guys got suspended.

It is ridiculous that people continue to be so sensitive over matters that are not all that significant. So these guys will lose their job and/or be labeled racists now? Political correctness is insideous.

Their comments were inappropriate. A one game suspension is light compared to some suspensions.
People got upset with Limbaugh comments about McNair. I understand. These comments were over the top, also.
To ironchef's comment, I have a good friend from China and we learned a lot about each others cultures by just becoming friends and talking. I ask her once about the term Chinaman. I was surprised to find out that it was not appreciated.
Yes we have to be sensitive to our comments, especially when they are being said by commentators who touch millions on TV. < :-)

These two announcers sound like a real couple of idiots. Their comments were unprofessional, inappropriate and just plain stupid.

Maybe's that McNabb. My mistake. < :-)

It's only PC 'gone crazy' to a crowd so willing to accept and condone this kind of racism they kind of understand what's wrong. I don't think the announcers were trying to be racist or target anyone, I just think they suffer from the same utter lack of education and stupidity a lot of people, in this case Americans, suffer from when they are completely unwilling to learn a little bit.
Now, that being said, it's a good chance for them to learn. I will also admit that from the headline I thought the comments were going to be intentionally ignorant instead of just seemingly stupid.

In other news, the NBA has an Iranian-born player?

Sorry, but how is this world news?
It is probably a weekly or even daily occurrence in Asia, Europe, Africa, Canada, South America or the Antipodes.

I think the question everyone here is missing is: There are people who actually watch the clippers play? Who honestly watches them? I know that if my team played the clippers I wouldn't even watch the game.

On the other hand, if he were the only American in an Iranian sporting league, and Iranian commentators made similar comments, such as "You mean the REAL Amerika?" and "WoW! That's W-A-S-H-I-N-G-T-O-N!" and "You sure its not George Washington's older brother?" and "If they ever make a movie about him they should use a Canadian because Canadians play Amerikans really well!" and "I guess Amerikans can do teamwork!" etc. Well, then, you going to try to tell me that we would not have a hundred comments here from angry Americans reading entire books written between the lines?
It wasn't what they said folks. It was the mean-spirited way that they said it. It was not their accusations, it was their ugly implications.

bushlover, she's an Army Major's wife who I enjoyed working with. I wasn't making any moves. Just learning about a difficult culture. It was cool. < :-)

adaydream, I'd still try to see if I could resolve these cultural differences on a more personal note. You could do wonders trying to warm inter-racial relations. And I mean WARM them. Now that'd be cool.

Yeah I guess you'd know about stupidity having first hand knowledge of it.

Talk about contrarian. Talk about looking for an opportunity to use a phrase you thought was cool.
You don't a situation until you have walked a mile in its shoes. All I did was put your contrarian derriere in those shoes. So what is your problem?
