Sounds like we need to prepare for a phase 2 Depression storm starting from Europe.

“We must take to the streets every day,” she said. “I think we can get the government to reverse” its measures.

And perhaps for an encore you could also get them to repeal the law of gravity.

These self-styled Indignants should direct their anger toward the root cause of this mess: Inter-generational debt-shifting by profligate politicians who have bought the votes of the venal masses with other people's money.

4 more years, the US will go through the same thing, won't be long.

Go go Global recession ! You know there are ways to make money during these troubling times ^_^

As long as the civil unrest is shut down quickly and the markets are still allowed to operate, I will cheer on these next 5-10 years

“The Portuguese people are fed up with it.”

And who, pray tell, borrowed so much money that now austerity is necessary? Oh yes, the democratically elected govenment of Portugal. Sorry folks, but in the words of the Great Warren Buffet, you took the German's credit card and went shopping. Now it is time to pay the bill.

Very simply, you borrowed, you owe, you pay. I am sorry that your govt. seems to have pissed it all away, but you voted them in, not me. Maybe you should have read the fine print on the loan. And please, (and I say this as a Democrat with a background in factory production) when you live in a country where everybody stops whatever he/she is doing to take a 2 hour nap in the middle of the afternoon, you do not get to complain about your lot in life.

That goes doubly for you, Spain. 25% unemployment, but the cafes are full every night (or so I hear from my friends that travel and the internet)? Tighten your belts, reduce (not eliminate) your social benefits, raise your taxes (yes, even on you, working man), pay your debts. That is what responsible adults do.

Agreed, Unless the current generation takes responsibility for their profligate ways, they are doomed. The germans can't rescue EVERYONE that is fiscally irresponsible.

You can look at what Canada did for answers. Under successive governments (both Liberal and Conservative), the government used responsible measures to balance the budget and reduce the national debt. The debt, NOT just the yearly deficit. The debt is half of what it used to be- less than 30% of GDP as opposed to over 60%.

No humanity in this person that is opposite of love, compassion and unselfishness. This person will find blood in his hands in dust.
