He said residents would be taken by bus to survey the damage if the rain let up Thursday.

Bus on stilts? I would imagine going in by boat would be better.

This state of affairs hasn't been on NHK... ONCE. Not ONCE. Whale revenge?

Maybe you're not paying attention? I've seen two reports on NHK since new years.

Poor Aussies... hang in there! My sister lives in Aus and no sooner did they move to a new house after the massive fires burned some of their livestock and the fences around their home then their new place got flooded. Incredibly bad luck, and pretty devastating to those involved. I hope they get some good luck soon, but it appears the start of the new year, at any rate, hasn't brought any good fortune with it.

Before or after the Ichiro report? :) Seriously, though... I did see a brief mention of it on NHK, which is I guess all you can expect given that it doesn't really involve Japan directly.

Every town flooded has a flood meter which shows how high the water has gotten up to in the past and the year it happened, but they are still surprised that they have been flooded!

Recently there were unbelievable amount of rains throughout Australia which cause wide spread infra-structures damages and beautiful wild flowers/wild life scenes in the out back at the same time. In Sydney it becomes wet and cool summer so far this year, very pleasant. Queensland usually has "beautiful one day, perfect the next" weather, but not this year.
