Have to agree with Jim Philips. Hamas, Iran, and even Hizbollah will do everything in their power to prevent peace in the ME.

djuice: And you can add to that list many Israeli groups who don't want to make any concessions and keep building settlements.

Yeah Hillary, the time certainly does seem ripe to achieve Mideast peace. I think she meant to say, the time is ripe for this administration to do something big as the US mid-term elections are fastly approaching.

Not Israeli groups but the Israeli government keep grabbing land and building new settlements on Palestinian land.

Was there ever any doubt the talks would fail? This is the most predictable drama on television. And soooooo booooooring!

If the international community threatened to enforce a one-state democratic solution (one state with equal rights for everyone), I am sure Israel would become more reasonable.

If the zionists want a secure Israel, they should move back to the pre-1967 boarders. They better hurry up, or else their end will come very soon.

adaydream...thats because you werent born in Gaza and you didnt grow up with constant fear, security checks, years of killings etc...and most importantly the constant theft of land (which is the biggest issue).

So what has the great Mid East Envoy ex UK PM Tony BLiar achieved over the last few years? Jetting around the world, all-expenses paid, with a bloated crew of security and flunkies.

    Absolutely NOTHING!

Yes, the war between Hamas and Fatah has taken a large toll on Palestinians.

    Yes, reasonably gone.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the man behind the Ground Zero mosque project, many hold him up as a moderate, has spoken out in favor of a “one-state solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and he sees peace agreements with Israel as a means to that end.

And, you see this as something that would encourage progress in peace talks? I can't see either side negotiating themselves or their countries out of existence. Maybe that's just me.

If Palestinians had their own state it would make Iraq insurgents look like schoolyard bullies. They people are incapable of any peace.

The 'talks' are the non-violent facet of the jihad obligatory upon the so-called Palestinian people. They are part of the endless efforts of the wider Arab/Mohammedan world to delegitimize Israel. Have been for decades. The Arabs don't want peace. Anyone old enough to remember the 'peace maker' Sadat knows that.

Oddly the Torah predicted that Palestintian people would forever be a torn in the side of the Israelis. Peace has well almost never come to that area of the Earth, I doubt it will start any time soon. Ironically they both worship the same monotheist God, just with different religious texts.

No, they don't . But there is one side in this war delighted to see you believe such nonsense, the side that propagates the lie they are from the same root...

Read the Torah and the Koran (I have) it's explicit in both text that Yahweh and Allah are the same God, it's just dependent on which of sons of Abraham you believe was blessed by God, Ishmael(Islam) or Isaac(Judah). Unless of course both regilous texts like to propagate lies, which is something you're more then free to beleive (I think they do to some exent).

it happens elbu...and as adults too, but mostly abroad and away from this war...believe it or not, only a few, the ones in power, want this war. Most youngsters just want to have fun and be young...most israelis dont want to join the army but are forced..they want to travel and grow old and not live in fear..same with the palestinians...just some greedy few dont like to share..especially when it comes to land..I suggest for Egypt to give Palestians land to settle on and for the Israelis to stop building more settlements on Palestinian land and infact give some back (but we all know that will never happen out of greed of human nature) I wish a Gandhi like figure can lead Israel (it wont work the other way around because the strong need to lead by example). Gandhi suggested for India to give the Muslims money to build a new country called Pakistan and land to go with that, which India did. Perhaps that is what Israel needs to do. As Nehru said, WAR between people (in this case Muslim Indians and Hindu Indians) is WORSE than having 2 Indias.

There are idiots on all side and the problem is not enough cool heads by letting these idiots who lobed the mortars be a reason for ending talks all they are doing is giving the hardliners on both side what they want.

I am in no way against Israel's right to exist and it is there now so there it will stay, that said I do feel that for a long time Israel probably was hoping for a way of annexing the Palestinian territories.

My reasoning for this is that why would they have annexed the Golan Heights knowing that is will make peace with Syria next to impossible, well because there were few Arab left by the time they did.

Many hardliners in Israel were probably hoping that one day they could do the same with the occupied territories, but reality seems to have now set in, the people there are not going away and to annex them and add all those Palestinian Arabs as Israeli citizens is unthinkable so is the idea of deporting them.

So now they are left with trying to figure out how to get out of the whole mess, all the wile hardliners on both side are putting up roadblocks like mortar attacks or pushing more settlements.

Just wondering why the Obama/H.Clinton administration kept calling this the "last chance"? Does that mean they will give up if these talks fail? Does it mean any future administration shouldn't even try?

techall: "Just wondering why the Obama/H.Clinton administration kept calling this the "last chance"? Does that mean they will give up if these talks fail? Does it mean any future administration shouldn't even try?"

Because the region is getting more and more polarized and everyday this situation goes on, the hardliner on both side entrench themselves more, on the Israeli side they will push legally (if that is actually possible) and illegally and create more settlements and on the Palestinian ( and other Arab and Muslim countries) the fundamentalist with their death to Israel, Jews and USA get more fuel for their hatred and more converts to their Jihadist thinking.

In a few more years at the status quo there will be no solution possible but the destruction of one or another and not just Israel and the Palestinians but a good part of the region.
