1) Right wing group releases video falsely claiming PP is selling baby body parts. 2) Right wing politicians falsely condemns PP for selling baby parts. 3) Right wing lunatic kills 3 people to stop PP from selling body parts.

For those who cannot see the dots

But police said they will not disclose why the gunman opened fire at the Planned Parenthood clinic, killing three people. Colorado Springs police said in a statement that they are sealing the warrants related to the case against 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear. They are not providing information on the weapon used in Friday’s shooting, a timeline of events or a motive.

I'm assuming that info will eventually be released?

Those videos clearly made the point planned parenthood sells fetus body parts. No right wing about it.

Considering that this terrorist is a White Christian for sure, and this is yet another Christian extremist terror attack on an abortion clinic on American soil, yes, after the shock has died down of course.

But whether at any time he said anything like: "God rest your soul" or "God almighty", "God damn you!" "Praise the Lord!" "Hail Jesus!" or "Hallelujah!" we probably won't be told that. It was not "Allahu akbar!" after all.

I vehemently disagree but know it's futile to argue with true believers (Eric Hoffer).

Is planned parenthood breaking any US laws in its operations? I thought the US was a nation of laws. Or is that situational and you only believe the laws that fit your beliefs?

Do you think this latest domestic terrorist broke any laws when he murdered innocent people?

CNN reports PPA's president has apologized for the 'tone' of the videos, and that Clinton and Sanders have both referred to the apology.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/23/politics/hillary-clinton-planned-parenthood-video-attack/

... Cecile Richards, the group's president, apologized for the videos, calling them "unacceptable."

"I personally apologize for the staff member's tone and statements," she said in a video. "As always, if there is any aspect of our work that can be strengthened, we want to know about it, and we take swift action to address it." ...

PPA's president has apologized for the 'tone' of the videos

But not the lies, the exaggerations, the misinformation, cherry-picking, hype, irrationalities or anything significant. Just the tone. Is he/she from Japan? Its like a "It was regrettable." statement followed by a bow but with a bit something extra.

No denying that Planned Parenthood received financial compensation for donating fetal tissue to research organizations. The right wing aspect comes in when you consider the reaction of prominent figures in the Republican Party when the story went public. The heated rhetoric from abortion opponents clearly had an impact on this guys mind set and some of the most inflammatory rhetoric came from members of the Republican Party. The controversy was definitely a right wing thing. They cherry picked what they wanted and ignored the rest.

The unedited video shows Deborah Nucatola clearly stating that this compensation was not a money making situation and was only done to help defray the costs of their procedures. This helped them to offer a high level of service to their clients with less impact on their bottom line. The amount of money involved was not large and in all likelihood amounted to a lose money proposition for Planned Parenthood. This past October, Planned Parenthood announced that they will no longer take compensation for fetal tissue donations.

That being said, I think the whole baby parts thing is just a distraction from the real issue, which is the fact that the fetal tissue came from a baby. And that baby was killed to get that tissue. It doesn’t matter what Planned Parenthood does with the body the real tragedy is that a totally helpless and innocent human being was scraped and sucked out of this world before they even had a chance. Planned Parenthood may have not made any money selling fetal tissue but over 50% of their annual income is generated through fees collected for performing abortions.

And that baby was killed to get that tissue.

The upper part of your post is true, but you go off the rails here. PP gives patients the option to donate tissue; no agreement, no donation. In either case, the fetus would still be aborted. In order to avoid controversy, PP has now discontinued this option. This means that the amount of stem cells available for research will be significantly reduced. Researchers throughout America are bemoaning the anti-choice crowd.

Laguna: Researchers throughout America are bemoaning the anti-choice crowd.

They've the option to grow and supply their own fetuses if they want.

Selling and donating are two different things. And keep in mind that if the tissues from legal abortions aren't donated to science, they're simply thrown away.

What I saw in the video was anti-abortion activists posing as medical research representatives persistently offering money to a Planned Parenthood rep, despite her repeated refusals to accept anything that could be seen as profit. She made it very clear that the only money they're allowed to receive (which was almost nothing) is for operation and transportation costs.

I saw a woman who looks like she's in her 70s make an awkward joke about how she would love to be rich enough to buy a Lamborghini, probably because she doesn't know how to respond to people who won't shut up about paying handsomely for something that's supposed to be free. Just think about how bizarre that situation is.

The video is nowhere close to being the damning evidence that activists claim it is, and this is in the version they edited themselves. That didn't stop Republican politicians from demonizing Planned Parenthood and spreading lies about fully formed fetuses being harvested and sold for parts though. In a country with known mental health and gun problems, this is what you get with that kind of rhetoric.

I said it before, but any politician or pundit that spread those lies has got blood on their hands.

It's no different than what happens to adult-aged cadavers. They are supplied by various sources and a fee is paid to help cover the costs. The difference is that no one doctored a video of themselves talking about buying cadavers to the people who collect the fees.

The other difference is that politicians like Carly Fiorina didn't say she saw a video of a dying person on the slab, a zombie lie she repeats when talking about seeing dying babies on the slab in the video. That scene doesn't exist but after listening to Trump it's pretty obvious fantasy videos are acceptable to GOP candidates.

Republicans saw an opportunity with some shady people and teamed up with them to misrepresent the issue in order to cause maximum outrage over abortion. Now they are using that manufactured outrage to try to change policy, and their actions include straight up illegal methods like denying federal funding. Republicans know it is a lie, even blocking access to the unedited videos, but they just can't pass up such a golden opportunity.

Now we have to deal with bubble dwellers doing their part by spreading the misinformation.

Ted Cruz finally broached the subject yesterday in Texas, noting:

The media promptly wants to blame him on the pro-life movement when at this point there’s very little evidence to indicate that.

Okay, fair enough - "No more baby parts" aside, perhaps he mistook Planned Parenthood for a Hobby Lobby shop. Still, Ted had to continue:

It’s also been reported that he was registered as an independent and a woman and a transgendered leftist activist.

Ah, I remember when I went through that phase of registering as a transgendered leftist activist. Just check the boxes on the registration form. Anyway, that one statement contains enough dog whistles to satisfy his right-wing pack. Nothing to look at here; move along, move along, is his message to America.

Laguna:

" Okay, fair enough - "No more baby parts" aside, perhaps he mistook Planned Parenthood for a Hobby Lobby shop. Still, Ted had to continue: "

So it is all about ideology. Fair enough, this guy might have been acting on ideology, although being a nutcase certainly also played a role.,

But how is it that for American party zealots it is ALL about ideology when they can pin it on their politcall opponents, but NEVER about ideology, when e.g. islamic radicals commit mass murder? Or when "green" activists go berserk? Then, it is always a personal issue or "workplace accident" or some such.

Double standards anyone?

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Why all the secrecy if it was legal? Shouldn't these discussions take place in an office and not over red wine and shrimp scampi? One doctor was clearly heard she wanted to buy a Mercedes. The videos were disgusting and should send any normal thinking human into a rage.

Rhetoric, my friend - it is all about rhetoric. Green activists might deface Humvees or release piggies, and while appreciating their goals, I do not condone their actions - but there is zero rhetoric here encouraging violence. As for Islamic radical violence: Please show me one, single statement of even the most leftist group encouraging it. On the other hand, many mainstream right-wing groups openly call for or covertly encourage physical resistance against what the Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed is a right. Catch a glimpse of the anti-choice boiler room here: http://mediamatters.org/research/2015/07/21/the-extreme-and-violent-background-of-the-group/204519

Or they blow up or shoot people..... somehome people like the Unabomber or James J. Lee escape your attention. But then, they are just crazy, and ideology has nothing to do with it, right? And of course, the islamist rethoric about jihad has nothing to do with the jihad, right? Just crazy, right?

As I said: Blatant double standards. You want to have your talking point and eat it, too...

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

when e.g. islamic radicals commit mass murder?

Who's not against radical Muslim ideology? Besides radical Muslims of course...

Or when "green" activists go berserk?

Seriously? When is the last time that happened? If it occurs, it's certainly not because of the "green agenda" being pushed by Democrats. (Quotes because they're not especially green.)

Double standards anyone?

Nope. I see see a lot of false equivalency from conservatives though. When liberal politicians tell blatant lies and use language like "cutting babies and selling their parts" to incite an already volatile base, I'll condemn them too.

Why all the secrecy if it was legal? Shouldn't these discussions take place in an office and not over red wine and shrimp scampi?

Wouldn't a closed door meeting be more secretive?

One doctor was clearly heard she wanted to buy a Mercedes.

Actually, it was a Lamborghini. A woman who looks like she might be 70 awkwardly made a joke about how she would love to be rich enough to afford a Lamborghini. She's not actually going to buy a Lamborghini.

The videos were disgusting and should send any normal thinking human into a rage.

The videos showed a woman awkwardly dealing with a couple of people who insisted on paying a lot of money for what's supposed to be a non-profit donation. She was a little too causal in her descriptions of some procedures, but the videos revealed no wrongdoing on the part of Planned Parenthood, even in the"definitive" version the activists edited themselves.

Abortion is not pretty, but it's legal. There's a reason it's legal too. When it's illegal, you get increases in young girls performing self-induced abortions, especially in states like Texas where lawmakers make access to safe options like Planned Parenthood prohibitively difficult.

WilliB - Good points. James Lee committed a terrorist act in the name of the environment in 2010, and of course, the Unibomber had a good roll in 1995. With that kind of frequency, we're about due for another outburst of environmental terrorism! - Any moment now! (Kinda like waiting for an imminent earthquake, whereas right-wing violence is like waiting for the rain.)

Of course ideology has to do with it - and right-wing ideology is objectively far more violent and more frequent than that of the left wing.

It's amazing how the Tea party types remain silent when one of their own goes off on a shooting frenzy because of lies propagated by Republican fundies, Republican media and obviously, Republican politicians.

Surely it isn't that difficult to call this man what he is?

An insane Christian terrorist carrying out Jihad against those that think differently.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Now the Republican candidate Rafael Cruz is calling this white Christian extremist terrorist a left-wing transexual. These republicans are nuts.

Just amazing. The idea that selling fetal body parts for profit is normal? WOW! What are we going to look like in one hundred years?

Now the Republican candidate Rafael Cruz is calling this white Christian extremist terrorist a left-wing transexual. These republicans are nuts.

They sure are Pukey.

Doesn't Canadian presidential inmate Raph Cruz realize the only time this Christian terrorist was to deliver anti-Obama leaflets?

Sounds like your garden variety insane tea-party type to me. Fox "news" or right wing hate radio clearly pushed him over the edge.

Either way, the blood is on the hands of the Christian fundies in the US that obsess about other people's choices.

It's not normal, and it's not true.

WOW! What are we going to look like in one hundred years?

Gun-toting religious nuts?

The upper part of your post is true, but you go off the rails here.

If being disturbed by the cavalier attitude with which human life is taken in the name of personal choice, then I’m guilty as charged. It doesn’t matter if the tissue was donated, sold or flushed down the toilet the fact remains the same that in every single incident a human life was ended intentionally and as a matter of choice. Sorry, but I just can’t not be disturbed by that.

In either case, the fetus would still be aborted

That is exactly my point. Regardless of what is done with the remains the life was still ended.

When this story broke President Obama made his obligatory statement that “This is not normal. We can’t let it become normal.” He then went on to use this incident to promote his agenda for gun control. But let’s look at what passes for normal in many “progressive” minds. Since 1973 (Roe vs Wade) close to 58,000,000 abortions have been performed in the US. In the same time frame there were approximately 550,000 firearm related homicides. Are 58,000,000 elective procedures that resulted in the death of a 58,000,000 individuals normal?
