Explosive decompression would very likely not leave enough time for the pilots to send out a Mayday before the aircraft disintegrated. In an emergency pilots are trained to aviate, navigate and communicate - in that order. It's possible this was metal fatigue like China Airlines Flight 611, but coming so soon after Russia's involvement in Syria and from a flight originating in the Sinai? My bet is somebody slipped explosives on board the aircraft. Depending on the explosive, less than one pound would be required - the Semtex bomb used on Pan Am 103 could have been as little as 12 ounces.

If the aircraft didn't break up in mid-air how did the wreckage come to cover such a wide area? The Egyptians haven't a clue what they are doing and just seem to say the first piece of rubbish that enter their heads.

Quote: "A Sinai-based Egyptian militant group allied to Islamic State claimed on Saturday to have shot down the plane in response to Russia’s military intervention in Syria in support of President Bashar al-Assad against rebels including Islamic State."

Early reporting later shown to be incorrect. For what it is worth, the original text apparently said "downed", and not "shot down". This could in theory therefore include something like a device placed on board.

This is getting more confusing. I read 4 days ago that "An Egyptian official claimed the crew had declared an emergency because of unspecified technical problems and requested diversion to the nearest airport. The Egyptian government was fast in ruling out a terrorist attack."

Now they're saying that no distress call was received. I do love roller coasters.

I read one expert postulate the possibility of either a drone strike or mid-air collision with a large drone.

Yes, except the experts are now saying there is no evidence of external trauma to the aircraft. Whatever caused it happened inside, by most recent accounts.

It's amazing that the people who know nothing about the situation pretend to know everything about it. Some news programs waste hours of broadcast time in discussion with "experts." Wait for the evidence in the recording boxes.

I find it interesting (sarc) that in this incident the media is urging people notto jump to conclusions, unlike they did with MH17.

Frederic Bastiat:

" I find it interesting (sarc) that in this incident the media is urging people notto jump to conclusions, unlike they did with MH17. "

That is because this time they can not blame Putin for it. To the contrary, a quite likely suspect are the "democratic rebels" which are supposed to embrace. So.... not a story the mainstream media are particularly enthusiastic about.

ah ok then the plane must have landed and a massive bomb went off spreading plane debri all over the desert!?

Now there is word from the investigators that there are signs of an explosion on board.

Obama`s and McCains "vetted democratic rebels" in action...
