I do not understand why a sovereign, albeit messed up country, can't test a missile. We do it all the time.

Think because the powerful & rich countries dictate what those less powerful can or can't do. The same with nuclear/chemical weapons.

Just ignore NK and go ahead with the exercises. Their missiles can't hit intended targets anyway.

North Korea says the same thing every year, and has been doing it since I can remember. I've even participated in these "preparations for an attack" in 1981 and 1992, and they still haven't done any "powerful" retaliating. It's more like this...You are on a long drive with your kids in the back seat, when one of them whines "Mom!, Billy won't stop touching meeeee!"

Which country are we talking about? Your reference is a bit generalized. I'm not sure if we're talking about North Korea or Mexico.

Ah, now they've escalated to what could almost be considered a threat.

Every time something comes out of Pyongyang I become more and more confused about what their actual intentions on the world stage are.

Why can't NK test a missile? Because they have gone back on their signed agreements on nuclear proliforation, engaged in terrorist acts against other countries, have starved their own population while the leadership lives in luxury, etc. I'll mention kidnapping foreign nationals too, just to stir the pot.

NK is so repugnant that none of the neighbors want them to develop the means to export their form of government.

That's why the neighbors agree that they can't be allowed to develop their weapon delivery technology further.

If you find that offensive I suggest you spend some time living in NK so you can experience the system first hand. Some time living as a peasant might convince you that some governments are awful enough that they shouldn't be allowed to exist, let alone wield influence beyond their own borders.

You know after 5 years of no efforts to work the NK problem, george bush finally did start working with the 6 party talks. There seemed to be real effort to rein in NK nuclear efforts. Then last years SK started with the bad mouthing.

The Koreas have to deal with this.

The US forces need to be removed and NK and SK have to be forced to at least leave each other alone. If nothing else, SK needs to have duct tape put acrossed the country's mouth. < :-)

SKorea didn't "start with the badmouthing". They just got tired of being played for fools for years and years.

I thought that's why the american forces were there...

As far as SK "badmouthing" the north, what Ossan said, double helping.

daydream: You know after 5 years of no efforts to work the NK problem

Ah, so the problem is that for 5 years we didn't work on the North Korean problem.

The US forces need to be removed and NK and SK have to be forced to at least leave each other alone.

...and this would be the efforts to work on the North Korean problem that you feel were missing in the past?
