Great! Declare a dangerous man "insane" and let him skip punishment. Another "success" of the western world and "human rights".

Since the maximum penalty in Norway is 20 years, the state and the courts have probably looked for another solution and that was the closed psychiatric ward. Maybe not so bad. If they had followed the law, it would not have been bearable. Now I only hope that Breivik did not expect this turnaround. So this "sane" guy for a very, very long time will suffer the agonies that enable him to meet each of his victims. I wish him a competent psychotherapist.

Norwegian liberal foolishness again.... ironically the same foolishness that perpetrates the islamic mass immigration and takover, which Brejvik was upset about.
In the minds of liberal fuzzy thinkers, there is no right and wrong, only medical problems.
Of course, he is completely sane and completely responsible for his actions.
In the end, the liberal fools are signing their own death warrants.

Of course he's insane. Killing people for their money, out of hate, revenge, etc - that's criminal. Killing indiscriminately for some non-existent 'resistance movement', because you're a 'knight with special powers' and 'a future ruler of Norway' - looney as a fruit cake.

You're sending mixed signals here. You think 'liberal fools' should prosecute him but also seem to support his insane racist cause.
And you're calling others foolish?

But wait, he said he did it in response to government policies. I've heard about this being done in other parts of the world and the chorus usually starts with, "Well, he does have a point".

... uh, you do know that they don't just let you wander around free after determining you to be incompetent to stand trial.

Best result probably, no court case, no grand standing and he'll spend the rest of his life locked up in a mental hospital.

Breivik stated he expected to spend the rest of his life in confinement, so he probably expected the government would pull this stunt to get around the lax maximum penalty allowed by Norway's justice system (he does know his enemy, it seems). The real tragedy will be if Norway doesn't change their laws so there can be justice for all victims in the future, regardless of who the killer is.

i hope it will not be a low level security insane asylum

The man is a perfect specimen for fMRI studies and other neural testing. By giving him help and leaving him to the scientists, we're doing our species a favor,

Like the courtroom where they somehow arrived at this verdict ?

If it keeps him locked up for life, truly, what is the difference between prison and a mental facility? Either will do just fine!

Not familiar with Norways laws on punishment (someone mentioned 20 yrs max?), but I guess as long as he never returns to society, that would be a good thing.
Yet, the fact that he surrendered to authorities tells me that he was in contact with reality (somewhat) and thus, in control of his own actions... in other words, he didn't keep shooting until he himself got shot and possibly killed by authorities (not that I want them to declare him sane, but just saying)
