"Jens David Breivik said he had severed all contact with his son in 1995 when the latter was 16"

    I can understand that.

    I can understand that.

Me too except - he was only 16 when his Father disappeared on him for good. One can assume that there must have been something that led up to his fathers departure going on in the years before when he was even younger.

No excuses for him, the guy is an animal and I wish he had shot himself too. But I dont get the feeling this is an altogether functional family in the first place, and Dads insistance on distancing himself from the monster HE created and thereby absolving himself of all responsibility just grates on me.

Keep him in there permanently. Sounds like the Norway of his psychotic dreams.

I'm waiting to hear from the mother. I want to know how he lived with her for so long while plotting all this. Not blaming her at all -but I'm interested to know if she had any suspicions. This is one evil man.

He should have taken his own life too. That’s what he should have done.”

Open mouth, insert foot. He should have killed himself in addition to all the others??? If he should have done anything, it would have been to begin his killing spree with suicide, THEN move on to shooting others. To all would be mass murderers, that is the correct way to do it!

I still can't believe the maximum he can get is 21 years in prison.

As mentioned in the article, there is a special sentence he could get, and I bet he will and will never get out.

His parents separated when he was 1. His father seems only concerned about himself:

I will have to live with this shame for the rest of my life. People will always link me with him

Rubbish parent. More details at http://www.athensreport.com/2011/07/norway-camp-killers-father-played-role-in-shooting-spree/

Norway has been stunned by the attacks and riveted by Breivik’s strange writings.

Well, to normal people they seem strange, but, according to experts interviewed by The New York Times, much of what he writes are standard fare on anti-Islamic, right-wing websites:

Marc Sageman, a former C.I.A. officer and a consultant on terrorism, said it would be unfair to attribute Mr. Breivik’s violence to the writers who helped shape his world view. But at the same time, he said the counterjihad writers do argue that the fundamentalist Salafi branch of Islam “is the infrastructure from which Al Qaeda emerged. Well, they and their writings are the infrastructure from which Breivik emerged.”

"This rhetoric,” he added, “is not cost-free”

Dr. Sageman, who is also a forensic psychiatrist, said he saw no overt signs of mental illness in Mr. Breivik’s writings. He said Mr. Breivik bears some resemblance to Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, who also spent years on a manifesto and carried out his mail bombings in part to gain attention for his theories. One obvious difference, Dr. Sageman said, is that Mr. Kaczynski was a loner who spent years in a rustic Montana cabin, while Mr. Breivik appears to have been quite social.

Kaczynski's targets in his manifesto were "leftists," which Breivik replaced with "multiculturalists" or "cultural Marxists."

The killings in Norway “could easily happen here,” he said. The Hutaree, an extremist Christian militia in Michigan accused last year of plotting to kill police officers and planting bombs at their funerals, had an arsenal of weapons larger than all the Muslim plotters charged in the United States since the Sept. 11 attacks combined, he said.
