I never understood this and still don't.
Religion: we are caring, we want peace, we love you and we love everybody. Buuuuuut...if your beliefs differ from ours you will not be saved, you will go to hell and we will think less of you.

It appears very hypocritical for members of the Catholic church to, on the one hand, take advantage of the freedom of religion offered by our secular, democratic society made up of many more non-Catholics than Catholics, while on the other hand chastising a non-Catholic for upholding the separation of church and state. Is there any evidence that Mr. Obama has ever endorsed abortion on a personal level for his immediate family members?

Umm, not sure where you read this in the above article. I certainly didn't see anything about that anywhere.
Is that what they're doing? Criticizing him for upholding separation of church and state? In point of fact, I didn't read that above either. What I read, was that catholic bishops were publicly criticizing him for his stance on the sanctity and value of human life. You can agree or disagree, however its pretty clear, thats what the criticism is about. Not about separation between church and state. In fact you could make the claim that the opposite is true. Last I heard, he was talking about expanding Bush's faith based outreach programs, which received so much criticism from those on the left who are so very hypocritically concerned about the issue.

The reality is that the bishops take the theological position that a human embryo is a person who is entitled to constitutional protection under law. A position further "enhances" by the doctrine that the person making the claim is "infallible."
This flies in the face of the simple biological fact that around 70% of fertilized embryoes are naturally flushed out of a woman's body as a result of either not attaching to the uterine wall or attaching improperly. The "author" of that flushing process -- to the extent that you believe in such things -- is therefore demonstrating by example that life up to a certain point is very expendable.
The church would be less hypocritical if they used the power of prayer to wish that others would choose life. Life can only be a choice when a clear choice does exist -- something that the Catholics would like to deny others IF they had the power. Hey, you run afoul of Catholic doctrine when you choose to use birth control.

You call it hypocritical to stand up for what you believe in? Giving scientific statements and claiming it undercuts their position, doesn't change the fact that what they are saying, is that life begins at conception. Not just when the baby exits a womans vagina. It would be much worse to believe as they do, and keep silent, now that would be hypocrisy.
