Romney should support Ron Paul: he'd get a tax rate of 0%.

Politics of class warfare. Obama likens himself to Lincoln and FDR. I can't imagine those two telling opponents to disclose how much money they made. What has happened to our right to free association? Are we going to penalize those who make the most of this right?

(psst - Jeremiah: It was the Republicans who brought this up in the first place....)

This is like suffering through a movie where you know the ending 10 minutes in and you can't leave.

So the GOP has a multiple cheater, a guy that bankrupts companies, and a guy that is willing to let people die that don't have insurance.

    What a great choice.

Time to give up and focus on 2016.

    Perhaps a Perry/Palin ticket? :-)

"If I don't win the primary Saturday, we will probably nominate a moderate," the former House speaker said, referring to Mitt Romney. "And the odds are fairly high he will lose to Obama."

Nice to see that at least 1 GOP candidate knows the writing's on the wall.

Time for conservatives to close shop and focus on 2016.

    Perhaps a Cain/Bachmann ticket? :-)

    "Romney" "Coherant Policy Position"

Nothing in particular. I just wanted to see if JT's system could deal with those words side by side.

    Vote for Mitt...the Job Cremator.

America is pretty divided right now. Romney was Republican governor of a very liberal state. I think he gets a lot more independents than Obama.

You have to be incredibly naive to believe stupid, poor people or even people of average intelligence and financial means could do a better job running the United States. Face it, a vast majority of national politicians are multi-millionaires and they earned that money through hard work or by gaining the academic credentials to be in responsible positions of government or industry. Romney was born into money; its not his fault, he could have become a trust fund baby but he decided to make something of himself. He did a pretty good job running a state, ran a successful business and turned a Winter Olympics into a great success. What did Obama do of any significance before becoming President?

Tatanka - "What did Obama do of any significance before becoming President?"

    He wasn't a Republican.

SushiSake3 - a typical lame (Democratic/Liberal) answer when confronted with facts and logic. At least state some accomplishment of Obama before he became President. Anything!

To be a "venture capitalist," you need money to venture; Romney was certainly not lacking there. Go ahead and pat him on the back for being the son of a three-time governor and former presidential candidate millionaire Morman doing exactly what was expected of him, but the skids don't get any better greased than his. Really, the question should be, what has Romney ever done to display fitness for the position of presidency besides being born?

Romney, bush jnr, Bush Snr, McCain, etc - all born with silver spoons in their mouths.

    Born into money and priviledge.

    Obama had none of that.

    Sushi,

Nope, Obama sucked the Government Teat dry and wants everyone else to do so at taxpayers expense instead of actually WORKING for a living!

    "They" don't do facts.

Once Romney has the nomination, he's going to be raked over the coals by the democrats. On his sixth attempt, hell, he deserves it. But it is not going to be a pretty sight.

How exactly are the democrats going to rake Romney over the coals?

How exactly are the democrats going to rake Romney over the coals?

They are going to tear apart his constitutional ignorance, his lack of experience in Washington, his hypocrisy in his roles as a business man and a politician, his draft-dodging, his flip-flopping, his lack of friends within the Republican party and the fact he is a liberal from Massachusetts.

The Democrats will attack his role as CEO of Bain Capital. Is that fair? No. Is it going to help the Democrats - you bet. For the Republicans to win, they have to win over the old-school blue-collar Dems who could swing if tempted. Are they going to swing towards "Mr Inspiriational" Romney? Heck no. Romney, born into money, got even more money and more power and now wants to show off while offering nothing?

Romney has a big problem - nobody loves him. Nobody cares about him and nobody is going to take that extra trouble of going out on election day to vote for him. The Democrats will have about $600 million to spend on their campaign and Romney is going to be ducking mud from every angle - a position he is more than used to taking when deciding his policies.

    Born into money and priviledge.

Interesting... So, they didn't earn their money, it was all given to them. Contrasting with Obama who had to earn his money. Err, how much exactly does a community organizer earn anyway?

Heck no. Romney, born into money, got even more money and more power and now wants to show off while offering nothing?

You forgot, worked hard for what he's got, and has a lot to offer. Hell, even the worst of the Republican candidate, has more to offer then Obamas policies of failure.

The Democrats will have about $600 million to spend on their campaign and Romney is going to be ducking mud from every angle - a position he is more than used to taking when deciding his policies.

And it won't matter at all. Because in the end, we've had 4 years of Obama. 4 years of recession, 4 years of incompetence, corruption, and constantly increasing regulations to stifle the economy. No, when it comes down to it, all that matters is, whether people are better off then they were 4 years ago. Since the majority of people are in fact in worse shape then they were 4 years ago, Obama will lose to which ever candidate the Republicans eventually pick.

Considering a large number of Americans (46%) pay no taxes after the personal exemptions and standard deduction I've always viewed this issue as a non-starter. Romney doesn't have earned income so it makes sense that he is taxed at capital gains.

If you want to increase capital gains you're effectively shooting everybody else in the foot too. Higher capital gains means you would have to pay even more taxes when selling your house, managing your stock account, or any number of other selling or trading events that fall under capital gains rates.

This whole idea of class tax warfare is ridiculous. Everybody wants the code and the rates to change but nobody wants to lose their deductions. Fact is that the ultra wealthy rarely make earned income, so messing with the tax brackets won't to jack, and if you mess with capital gains rate you screw everybody else over.

"Obama... paid an effective tax rate of 26%"

Heh, that makes it sound like Obama actually contributed money to the government, when in reality virtually his entire income is paid by taxpayers.

4 years of recession, 4 years of incompetence, corruption, and constantly increasing regulations to stifle the economy.

Yeah, but poor administration didnt stop Bush Jr, Clinton or Reagan from being re-elected. The advantage in their corner was the challenger was unlikable.

The economy may be bombing but you need a decent choice to vote for. Mondale, Dole and Kerry just werent likable enough to vote for. Romney is in the same boat.
