Maybe some of the violence the taliban are responsible for is because they are a little hurt that bush quit inviting them over to the U.S. for a visit.

Sort of like asking a Japanese rice farmer to grow potatos. It's really just better to listen to their needs and explain yours. Change is not always a complete transformation.
I'm pretty sure peace on the Taliban's terms i.e. letting them return to power, is not what any American president nor any leader around the world has in mind.
If the Taliban would just hand in Bin Laden's head, then the American people would start calling for their sons and daughters to come home. The sentiment to stay there would wane.
When the US was attacked under Clinton, all he had the stomach for was to bomb someplace. Expect more of the same under Obama. The guy who voted to pull us out of everywhere, and to defund the troops. Didn't matter if doing so would endanger their lives. He wanted em out, he wanted them gone. As the new CinC, they will be. I expect a complete pullout within months from both Iraq and Afghanistan. Of course I also expect him to go visit Putin and Chavez and to kiss both of their asses. We'll see how much what I expect actually happens.
Gee. Now why wouldn't Obama make a direct reference to terrorists? I'd say the future looks bright for the Taliban with an Obama administration. They should start working on their wish list now.

As the Bush administration reviews its strategy in Afghanistan, there is an emerging consensus that the way forward should include reaching out to supporters of the Taliban, and possibly even elements of the Taliban itself.

"supports, as part of his strategy, reaching out to [Taliban] tribal leaders in an effort to separate "the reconcilable elements of the insurgency from the irreconcilable elements of the insurgency" as reported by Randy Scheunemann, the campaign's top foreign-policy adviser.
This has been in the works for some time now.
It is hard to face the truth for the NeoCons. Bush-----------------> Taliban
I really want to hear the denials because the truth is going to come out one way or another soon.
Pssst, Randy Scheunemann was talking about what McCain said.
Warn us of Obama? No, not thinking the man has the stones to be President is different then actively hoping he doesn't. I hope he does. I hope he succeeds. America would be better for a good president. I don't think Obama will be that good president. In fact, I'm just hoping he doesn't turn out to be another Carter. The worst president in History!
Obama talked a tough game about combating Al-Qaeda and the Taliban but will find a way to chicken out in Afghanistan just as he will give up in Iraq. Yesterday was a good day for terrorists the world over - very sad.

Just a theory.

me, i could never suit up for a commander in chief like that.
I think the blowing up of the Bamiyan Buddhas says all that needs to be said about the Taliban's ideas. If an era of peace arises, it won't be from following Taliban philosophy.

it is not terrain or strategy = it is the people.

This is clever on the Talibans part. They want America to stay as long as possible.

Smith, I'll take war to the Taliban's idea of "peace" any day. There are some things worth fighting for.

Since when did Obama vote to pull us out of Afghanistan?
The answer is NEVER.
Oh, the wise prognostications of the fearmongers and the warmongers. Listen to them for they are the Prophets sent here to warn us of Obama.

Taka313 - So, do you think if President Obama invites the Taliban to the U.S. for a visit, they'll stop misbehaving?
