Impeachment means little -Bill Clinton was impeached ---> still couldn't kick him to the curb, if fact he got more popular. Bill Clinton even lied to the Supreme Court --> A felony conviction.

Blago should fight this from the logical standpoint. -Evil DemoCom he is.

Why should Obama's seat be picked by them? Why can't it go out for a vote?

I think its a disgusting policy. You keep your seat as you vie for higher office. If you lose, you keep your seat. If you win, you get to assist in your replacement. However, for the commoners - If you look for another job while on the job, you are fired. If you find another job, you have no bearing in who gets hired.

Its time for the government to start acting like real people.

Skip, In theory, I agree with you. I think the problem is there would be a power vacuum in the interim. The official who is leaving needs to prepare for his/her new position therefore they cannot perform their old duties. That leaves a gap for the duration of a new campaign.

However, I agree that it's time for the govt. to start acting like real people. Accountability would be nice. I know I'm accountable to my boss and he demands results; positive results. I'm 100% certain I am not the only one who is. It would be a very nice change of pace if our politicians were as well.

In addition to shaking down a children's hopsital and trying to sell to the highest 'liberal' bidder the President-elect's senate seat?

Skip..I know the answer. Believe it or not, ironically, it is partly because of corruption. Before 1912(?) senators were elected by state legislators, not by the general population. Basically the state governor chose the senator. He, and they were all men, could manipulate the state legislative body to elect the person he chose or the minority party in the state legislature could delay any vote leaving some senate seats vacant for years at a time. Local industry leaders used their financial power to force a candidate on the state or block a legislative vote. The entire senate was becoming a corrupt den of thieves that did the bidding of big business. The 17th amendment changed the election of senators to a popular vote by the people. It also gave the state legislatures the power to either appoint a senator to a vacant seat or to authorize that responsibility to the state governor. In Illinois, according to the 17th amendment and state law the governor has the right and obligation to appoint somebody to the senate until an election is held. The 17th amendment was able to pass the senate because of the unusually large number of senators that were just beginning their tern and did not have to face the puplic for 6 years.

Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, also a product of the Chicago Machine, refuses to answer any questions about Blago Gate.

Imagine the hysteria if it were Rove.

No kidding. Trying to sell a Senate seat...for MONEY! Does he not realize how much gay sex he could have got out of this? Obviously not a Florida republican.

the wingers can get over that obama has won and that their boy bush is on his way out as a total loser. When the point their fingers at obama seems like they really mean bush.
