The US and lots of other countries are messed up with human rights. We should not be shoving down others'throats what we expect of them. Mao's people backed him up, and the majority of people do now over there so just let them be what they are.

For an attorney, "freedoms" are great arguments, but at some point, it must be practiced and enforced w/in one's own border. Will the US Bill of Rights actually override the "Patriot Act" and the dictates of "Homeland Security"? The situation in the US really should modify all statements of US Govt. Officials to, "sorta freedom of expressions".

I think the US is far ahead of most of the rest of the world in human rights by most definitions of the term. Some EU countries might be ahead. But the majority are behind.
On the other had Obama's statements are just words with no ability to back them up. I'm sure the Chinese recognize this and are going to treat him with all due respect. They'll nod politely and do as the please....

Horrible things happen when human rights are not defended for everyone. First it is the other guy who is trampled upon and then they come for you.

If he were a Chinese citizen he would have been arrested, do you suppose he understood the irony?
