nippon5: I think people tend to read they want to and assume what the story says before finish reading it. There is a lot of mistrust amongst all people in the states and yes, there is a strong mistrust against blacks than any other but one would have to agree that a lot of it is due to what they see and not what they think. I said this before on JT that if one group feels they are getting a bum rap and don't feel the stereo type fits, they need to first look within. Why should people who are not accustomed to others have to have an open mind? You equally have blacks, right here on JT, who feel it is due for the US to have a black president, not an oriental, not an Hispanic, not a Jew, nothing else. I disagree. Still you need to look more at numbers. A lot of Anglos I know go so far out of their way to prove they ain't racist when they really don't have to. Additionally, if you want to measure things up, you have to take a look at cities that are run by black elits, many if not most of them, are not doing to well and that is also a reflection. I am sure many do ask themselves will he (O) build an administration full of minorities? Will Anglos have to lose their power base? Should they be willing to give it up?

Not for nothing, if you look at countries in South America, even Cuba, that have large black populations and even larger than the US, you won't see many getting a push like you see in the states at the moment. Obama is not a Jessie nor an Al and many see that. They do look past his color.

Obama will lose if he chooses Hillary, she has been too quick to attack white males at the lower and mid income level. If he chooses a non-white Hispanic, which I kind of wish for in the back of my mind, he will lose as it will only prove what a lot of whites do say and that is white and black can't live together.

How can Hillary be on a short list with all the crap she has said about him? If I were him, I would choose McCain over him instead of her, I feel he is a lot more respectful to Obama than she and Bill were.

It really makes no difference who obama chooses as a runningmate. He'll need to borrow about 40 million blacks from somewhere for a day in early November in order to be given the keys to the White House.

In addition, hillary only suspended her race for the Oval Office; which is proving to be a wise move on her part. Given the rookie U.S. senator from Illinois' waffling on issues that are near and dear to the far-left contingent of the democrat party that originally selected him (he was against the death penalty and is now for it; He was for a complete ban on handguns and now opposes it, etc.), don't be too surprised if the Super D's exhibit buyers' remorse in Denver late next month.

I don't know....Obama seems to like the spotlight, his V.P should be pretty humble so as not to be in any danger his hogging it.

RR, so you are not enthused about the fact that he is getting votes across color lines? I recall someone saying Coin Powell, at that time would have this effect.
Now, that. Colin Powell would make a good VP regardless of his race, people on both the left and the right would vote for him.

I thought Colin would be the greatest V.P McCain could chose and I hope they have talked about it. Second choice would be Olympia Snowe in my opinion.

As far as Obama's choices I'll leave my opinion about his ego is more important than choosing a good veep from a very sparse Democratic field (except for Bill Richardson) now that would change my opinion about him more if he chose him.

Barack Obama will be looking for someone who thinks on his own and on his feet. Not a follow the leader type of person or pittbull. < :-)

Skip - On that point, I agree. But as we both know obama, the Chicago community organizer, isn't fit to lick the former U.S. Secretary of State's shoes.

Besides, there's little doubt that if it were Gen. Powell's desire to actually run for public office why should he expose himself and his family to the sort of scrutiny (and possible danger) that such a campaign would cause for the number two position?

Nah, obama would best choose his mentor, "Rev." Wright, to be his runningmate. He's the only person barack's listened to in past 20 years.
