"bypass obstructionist Republicans", shred our Constitution. Call it 'change'.

shred our Constitution. Call it 'change'.

From the article: "President George W Bush made more than 170 such appointments in his two-term presidency."

President Obama will not reach that number. That is definitely a change in the positive direction.

I wonder how much damage Obama's arch-Leftist buddies can cause in a year?

Add 15 to 35 'czars' - - like the avowed commie clown Van Jones.

Sen. McCain criticized Obama's recess appointments while McCain's GOP colleague Bush made 170 of them. This tells us clearly that Sen. McCain thinks recess appointments are ok if made by a GOP president but are not ok if made by a Democratic president. Can any other conclusion be drawn from this latest display of blatant GOP hypocrisy?

SenatorAcorn, do you agree Sen. McCain's outburst is a display of hypocrisy?

I didnt vote for him. He is free to say what he believes. America is a free country.

He's my Senator, being from Arizona, but I didn't vote for him either. Not in the last election, not in his previous Senate election. Not in the upcoming primary election either. Don't know that its hypocrisy though. Did he endorse Bush using those tactics? And what kind of positions, and people were appointed this way under Bush, versus under Obama? Did Bush appoint communists into power the way Obama has?

I honestly don't know the answer to these questions, but if the answer to any of them is No, then I'd have to say, no hypocrisy.

When government posts are vacant for six months something is definitely wrong. It looks to me like the problem is not that Republicans disapproved, its that they drug their feet on making any decision at all. That is why they are branded obstructionist. Had they clearly said "no" a new appointee could have been named. They might not have liked that one either but, ahem, who is the president?

Molenir, what Republicans did you vote for? Does it matter? The question is do you support this obstructionism or not? It seems pretty far over the top to me.

To answer your question here. I voted for Republican for my Congressman. And no, it really doesn't matter. You're previous question was about hypocrisy, not obstructionism. And frankly, I don't see holding up some appointments as being 'obstructionist'. Republicans haven't really been able to truly block them any way. If Dems really wanted to push them through, they could easily do it. They haven't really wanted to force the issue, and completely alienate their Republican colleagues. However please note how many people Obama has managed to get confirmed. Its not a small number. In point of fact, its actually on par with previous presidents, so again, not really Obstructionist, though with the hostile tone in Washington these days, it might very well turn that way.

Sorry HeyLars, I mistook your question for Sushi's. My mistake.

The question is: Was George W. Bush "shredding the Constitution" when he made 170 recess appointments?

Direct answer, No. Neither is Obama. Congress hates it, but Presidents have done this since John Addams. Recess appointments are constitutional, and they last 1 year.

Theres really nothing here to argue about though as far as I'm concerned. Obama himself criticized recess appointments when he was a Senator, now that he's President, he uses them himself. Perhaps thats hypocrisy, but mostly its just politics.

Both Dems and Republicans, in the Senate criticize the President for recess appointments. When a Republican is in the White house, Dems are vocal opponents of it, when a Dem is in the White House, Republicans are, while Dems are quiet on the issue. Like I said, just politics.

If you are the kind of person who thinks an avowed commie and a 9-11 truther like Van Jones made a good "czar" well then probably.

Thank you. I know there are many forthright and honest conservatives. Unfortunately, a certain "senator" can't be counted among them.

lol, come on now. You have to admit its just politics, not truth or lies. When Obama was a Senator, decrying Bush's recess appointments, that was no different then when McCain complains. Heh, you'll note he only complained about it when Clinton and now, Obama did it. Never when it was the Bushes doing the recess appointments. Do you not remember 'Dirty' Harry complaining about Bush's recess appointments? I do. Now, nothing but crickets chirping...

I do think there is a difference though. Bush didn't appoint any avowed communists, Obama did. But thats a whole other kettle of fish.
