Is this the pivot to jobs we keep hearing about? I hope so, President Obama's re-election will be here before you know it.

Krueger, if confirmed by the Senate, will serve as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and succeed long-time Obama confidante Austan Goolsbee who left the administration to return to academia in Chicago.

Goolsbee replaced Rohmer, who replaced Summers. With any other president four appointees in less than three years to a post like this would have the media blaring 24/7 that the president clearly has ideological blinkers he refuses to take off.

This guy Krueger will also return to academia in short order, for the simple reason that Obama's core constituency is fundamentally opposed to job creation, wealth creation and welfare reform.

    Wrong again.

Romer was Obama's first appointee, and she replaced Lazear in 2009 (who was a Bush appointee. Bush had 5 appointees in 8 years: Hubbard, Mankiw, Rosen, Bernanke, and Lazear.

But Republican backers conveniently overlook that stuff.

Obama needs to appoint a leadership czar to replace Valerie Jarret and show him how to do the job he was elected to do.

Exactly how many jobs has this employment expert actually created in his academic career?

President Obama should have reached out and appointed a private economist with real world experience in creating jobs and not another tenured academic with an already guaranteed job for life after this temporary Government gig is over.

I bet Herman Cain knows more about how to cut the unemployment rate than Alan Krueger.

Krueger also wrote a well-reviewed book called “What Makes a Terrorist” which examined the societal, economic and political conditions that breed terrorism and their psychological and economic consequences.

I thought that the belief was that it was not economics that make terrorists, since many of the radicals in England came from families that one would describe as Middle Class, not on ly in England but in other parts of the world. Now are we going back to it's the economic reasons why there are terrorists?

Could have made a worse pick but I still don't like Krueger. Between his articals for Times and his work on the EK curve Krueger and others like him seem to take the mainstream view that economies work like machines rather than as organic markets subject to fears, cultural norms, and limitations of the people who drive them.

It's not a misstep but his selection isn't putting us in the kind of direction I'd like to see.
