I think people are beginning to tire or his empty promises.... people might believe a bit more if he actually stood up to the banks and companies who make millions but pay no federal taxes....

Obama, many people had hope in you and promised changes. As a result, well, nothing has changed and you can't blame the opposition for it. You are inept as the opposition. "Pledge to fight for the middle class" Yeah.. whatever...

“Their philosophy is simple: we are better off when everyone is left to fend for themselves and play by their own rules. Well, I’m here to say they are wrong.”

This is the main problem...Obama's misguided belief that the only way people can get by is through Government oversight and regulation...and his belief that people WANT that from their Government...

Its ironic that the first place these people who want no regulation or oversight turn to when their free market practices fail is the government..... exhibit A - the banks during the 2008 (and ongoing) financial crisis

Interesting to hear Obama run on his record. Oh, wait......

It's pretty shameful of Obama to continue acting like a petulant child.

I am one of those who had such hope for the Obama presidency. And when he entered the oval office, it seemed like the stars had alinged perfectly; control of both the House and the Senate which gave him a filibuster-proof congress to go with his wild popularity.

    And he squandered it.

All Mr. Obama had to do to secure a second term was stop foreclosures (fair when you consider the banks got billions), pull out of Iraq and end wars of choice and close Gitanamo (the interrogation camp in Cuba). If Mr. Obama had tried to make term limits and end life-time politicians, America may have made Obama their king.

History will look bad at the Obama presidency as one of the greatest wastes of a golden opportunity.

It's amazing how many republican paid bloggers are on here. Obama has tried to pass many jobs bills only to have everyone of them blocked by the republicans. Republicans admitted they were willing to destroy the economy if that's what it would take to defeat Obama. The American people don't like being used as pawns in your political games and Republicans will lose big time in the next elections.

After that, he plans to wish for world peace. Oh, he already got a Nobel Prize for that.

Nobody fights for the middle class.

There basically was no middle class as we know it till capitalism, free markets, free trade and the industrial revolution ended the serf systems in Europe and their equivalents in Asia.

    @unreconstructed:

Therefore Obama must be ___? You're saying Obama doesn't believe in capitalism, but pretends (deceitfully) to care for the middle class, which was born of capitalism, so therefore Obama is ___?

Your post makes no sense, but I take it you have a great disdain for this president, whatever the reason.

@unreconstructed again: By "serf systems", I guess you mean feudalism.

The recently published Ron Suskind book detailed an economic illiterate in the White House who astounded Keynesian Democrats like Larry Summers with rudimentary Marxist claptrap like the notion that ATM's are to blame for the record high unemployment Obama has brought us. Today we learn that our affirmative action president thinks the internet is what is also spoiling the,uh, recovery that the Democrat Party promised.

    RealClearPolitics:

"Layoffs too often became permanent, not part of the business cycle. And these changes didn't just affect blue collar workers. If you were a bank teller or a phone operator or a travel agent, you saw many in your profession replaced by ATMs and the internet," President Obama said at a campaign event in Kansas.

I can't believe anyone can support this neo-Luddite.

Making a factual statement about the effects of modernization and automation makes the president a luddite?

That's quite a stretch. I think you may have a problem with the president.

Are Democrats really stupid enough to buy into President Obama's new re-election strategy? Using ever more socialism as a tool to tame capitalism is a fools errand. Europe is currently reaping the sour rewards of pursing this exact same path. Obama is already one of the worst presidents in history. This latest turn to the ideological left has him going for the undisputed crown.

Making a factual statement about the effects of modernization and automation makes the president a luddite?

Since Obama is making the same false statements that all Socialists have been making about modernization and automation for the past century and a half.... yes, I would say it puts him in the same league.

Another poster completely unfamiliar with the luddites. I suggest doing a little research on the luddites before comparing President Obama to them. It will prevent you from looking a fool in the future.

It's not just president obama who gets called a Luddite. The label fits a lot of 'progressives'. You yourself are over on the whaling thread and basically saying whalers should go back to using canoes and spears. Then you could 'respect' them. Why the antipathy towards technology?

Why is the Democrat Party already moving to prevent any of the Occupy crowd from assembling peacefully, as is their constitutional right, at next year's convention in Charlotte?

Obama tells the nation he supports the Occupy movement, that he ran for president because of them, and that he is all about saving the middle class. What do Obama,Pelosi and company have against the so-called 99 percent?

It's like the Dems fear a replay of 1968 or something.
