This president is lost. I fear he may not even complete the term he was elected to.

Bush is a bad guy. Obama restarts Guantanamo trials. Who is the next president? Are going to call Bush back to save USA?

I doubt he even gives a squat. Too busy just getting through life.

Wasn't it President Obama that said:

"Rather than keeping us safer, the prison at Guantanamo has weakened American national security. It is a rallying cry for our enemies"

So why hasn't he closed Gitmo yet? He promised he would when he campaigned for president. Oh let me guess - because Bush was right and he was spectacularly wrong. He is sadly naive and ill-equipped to be the chief executive of a tug boat let alone a country. He is in way over his head.

I thought Obama was going to close Guantanamo when he first caem to office, is this just another failed promise?

Wolfpack - "So why hasn't he closed Gitmo yet?"

Primarily because GOP politicians have unnecessarily scared large numbers of Americans into thinking that it is 'too dangerous' to try Gitmo inmates on U.S. soil.

Or to house them in Supermax prisons, places from where no one has ever escaped from.

So, to answer your question - Obama has had to go back on his word due to childish, misguided and deceitful fearmongering from the Right.

    But you already knew that.

I think some of the posters above would be able to make more informed posts if they actually kept up with the news.

    It's not difficult.

Americans have no one to blame for this policy reversal but fearmongering from the Right.

But sure, there'll always be people who aren't so well informed and who have nothing better to do but try to score points against the president who will lash out and blame Obama.

    That's to be expected.

Gitmo shouldn't be closed. I suspected Obama would change his position on this after he was elected and I'm glad to see that he did.

SushiSake: Primarily because GOP politicians have unnecessarily scared large numbers of Americans into thinking that it is 'too dangerous' to try Gitmo inmates on U.S. soil.

Training yourself to endure the shame and embarrassment of making such silly statements really isn't anything to be proud of.

what a vulgar idea. US needs Ralph Nader for president. He would take care of the American people first before playing power globe war games.

  • 0

    SushiSake3

Superlib - nothing shameful and embarrassing at all. If you took the time to follow the news, you would know I'm right.

What else was behind the outrage at a NY trial of a Gitmo baddie?

    Oh yeah, ......!

Amazing to me that you can STILL blame the GOP for this place being open! the Bamster is IN CHARGE. When he took charge he had a Democratic controlled Senate AND Congress. He STILL could not do it! What in the lords name are you smoking???

Had kind of a hard and even embarrassing day dealing with with a few co-workers who had bought the Obama hype and then saw this. Aussie Lass was the worst. She seemed almost distrught, had so much invested in Obama. The denial and the lashing out was weird, but to be expected. I finally hit upon an angle I thought she as a former social worker would understand to explain Obama's behavior towards his supporters:

    abusive, manipulating relationships.

Look, I told her, I know Obama is the man for you but you need to face facts

he is just not that into you.

She kind of melted into a sobbing heap for a while but was at least able to get on with work eventually.

Took him long enough to realize that none state terrorists who fancy themselves none state soldiers deserve none state justice and a soldiers justice by a military tribunal, against those they have declared war on. Good thing though, those innocent sweeties were locked up for another two years in legal limbo until this was sorted out. I figure at least another another two to three years of letting them rot before they can get their tribunals, as all the legal stuff has to be settled.

Mate, can we get an English translation with that? :-)

I could probably provide it myself but it's your quote, so I guess that'd be your job.

Obama made utter fools of so many True Believers . I laugh to see that rather than admit it they lash out at those of us who told them this would be the case

SoldariTea, you're barking up the wrong tree, and it's disturbing you can't see it.

It's political reality. Congress blocked it. Obama doesn't have power to change that. Get with it.

    You owe itto yourself.

Rumsfeld just finished a tour promoting his new book. Even he was able to confidently predict Obama would throw his fans under the bus, embrace his Inner Cowboy, and try to be like Dumbya.

Good on Obama realizing that these scums do not deserve to ever be tried in the US court legal system, time to let more of these guys hang, stop wasting our tax $$$ on a bunch of terrorists, who do not like Playboy, bacon, chicks in non ninja type head to toe black clothes. How many of these punks it Guantanamo have been released to only come back and kill innocent people over in Pakistan, etc...??One too many! Guantanamo needs to learn from Fidel Castro, Fidel really would know what to do with these terrorists, he would not wast a second and just have them all shot.

elbudamexicano - "How many of these punks it Guantanamo have been released to only come back and kill innocent people over in Pakistan, etc...??"

How many have been pushed to the limits by being imprisoned for no reason and not even getting the benefit of a fair trial without having people blindly thinking that because they are wearing orange overall, they MUST be hardened kilers?

elbudamexicano - "Guantanamo needs to learn from Fidel Castro, Fidel really would know what to do with these terrorists, he would not wast a second and just have them all shot."

    Which ones? And for what?

    Looking forward to your answers.

U.S. President Barack Obama approved Monday the resumption of military trials for detainees at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, ending a two-year ban.

Solute to Obama!! He earned my respect.

More power will be given to military prosecutors to find them guilty. Everything starts with "THEY ARE GUILTY", rather than 'THEY ARE NOT GUILTY".

You can't shift the blame when President Obama and the Democrats had a filibuster proof majority for over a year. They just couldn't get it done. Obama can't even get Democrats to go along with his hair-brained ideas on dealing with terrorism. They spent all of their time pushing their socialist health care plan and put Guantanamo on the back burner. Let's face it, Liberals don't "really" care about those bad guys down there. They just used the issue to hammer Bush while he was in the White House. Now that they are in charge, they are going to talk in circles about what they promised before and quietly acquiesce to Bush's policy.

Finally one thing I can applaud Obama for.

because they are wearing orange overall, they MUST be hardened kilers?

LOL!!! sushi - it's the other way around. they are wearing orange overalls BECAUSE they are killers and fought on the battlefield against the western forces of freedom.

Obama made the same bogus claim on the campaign trail - or have you already forgotten?

    Obama signed this Executive Order.

How long until you can admit you threw your full support behind a "war criminal" - for that is what he is if the rest of us examine his actions in light of the rhetoric from your side since 9-11.

    We'll all be waiting...
