"Russia condemned it is ( as ) a threat to its security"

Yes, Russia needs to be able to wipe out European cities with their missiles, lol.

it makes no sense for russia to give independence to it's breakaway republics and then use military force to retake them, poland & the czech republic. scratching my head the russians are far more concerned, recently, with their own extremists and organized criminals than they are with the rest of europe/the middle east/america. unlike china, russia can be brought into the fold diplomatically. as we saw with georgia & chechnya, if the russians want to attack their neighbours, there is very (very) little the americans, or anyone else for that matter, will/can do about it. appeasing the russians may even be necessary to put additional pressure on china to coerce cooperation from the dprk and iran. i suggest that the honourable senator from south carolina go back to what she knows best. gamecocks!!! Independence wasn't exactly given freely and countries like Romania fought hard to rid themselves of Russian control and the fact that they succeeded never really sat well with the Kremlin. Heck, Moscows even threatened to invade on more than one occasion. And anyway, they're Russians, they don't have to make sense.

Obama’s decision immediately raised a political question of whether it was done in part to appease Russia

    Duh.

Go on and dream up false wars.

Like I've said before. You got people who don't like each other. Big deal. There's a lot of people who don't like each other. Iran doesn't have any nukes. We don't need to be protecting people against arms that aren't even possessed.

OOPS, spoke too soon. Israel has nukes. Maybe we do need to protect other nations from them. < :-)

If we're talking exclusivly Russia and the U.S than nothing could be farther from the truth considering the U.S outnumbers Russia by more than 160 million people. Also taking into account that the Russian population is in decline while the U.S is growing. I believe the Russians also outnumber us in terms of stupid moves and that's something considering how many we make on a day to day basis.

No the decision had nothing to do with thawing US Russian ties.... my foot.

I'd rather say that Obama's decision wasn't only about Russia. But I'm sure it came up in the conversation. Something like "this thing is going to be expensive, doesn't work well and the Russians hate it. Maybe if we give up on it the Russians will cooperate more on pressuring Iran to give up it's nuclear ambitions."

See, it's not all about Russia.

    Iran doesn't have any nukes.

TRANSLATION: Relax about Iran's nuclear program. I want them to continue their development of nuclear weapons so they can use them on Israel.

    Israel has nukes

And has had them for half a century without using them, despite being surrounded by Infidel-hating Muslims who seek to destroy them. Time to stop wasting time worrying about Israel's nukes, and start worrying about nukes getting in the hands of Muslim terrorists and Islamic regimes.
