I'm sure Goldman Sachs is involved somewhere. Note that there was no US outcry when speculators forced up food prices a few years ago, leading to unrest and famine in many poor countries.

If the US reintroduced the ban on commodity speculation (a ban lifted as a result of pressure from the likes of Goldman Sachs) it would go a long way to solving these problems. Make those that buy forward contracts take delivery of the product.

It's time for the yearly "task for on gas prices" that have come out with every President that I can remember...

I'd support this. It's time for market fundamentals to return. The average Joe is getting squeezed by mega funds that have the ability to shift some papers around and manipulate markets for some extra cash.

thats because ethanol was so widely touted as the step we must take, to save the earth itself and those upon it.Speculators have nothing to do with what you talk about, unless you mean the Fed helping the Pelosi Obama Congress by printing money, in the vain hope of staving off financial disaster.

I think that banning American oil companies from drilling in America, refusing to let them build new refineries etc... might have something to do with the price of gasoline. And starting more wars in the ME might also have something to do with the oil prices. Just maybe.
