I thought US people elected Obama only because US was "crippled."

4 ( +5 / -1 )

He sure has aged! Coming up on 3 years and it looks like he has aged over 10 better yet 15 years. Mine says he will never vote for him, I can not vote :p Think his scare tactics will not work. If anything the press is making things worse. They spread scare and wonder why the people will not spend?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

FINALLY Obama is realizing that todays Republican party is manned by dangerous psychos who would happily run the USA into the ground just to spite their opponents.

You cannot reason with the unreasonable. So don't even try.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

America has been dying a slow death for decades, and only the people, not politicians, can change that.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

"Democratic voters who have grown increasingly disenchanted with him"

How could this be?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@YuriOtani, one of me and my friends favorite past times was seeing how quickly newly elected president's hair would turn white. Its quite entertaining :D Mr.Clinton had blond hair, Bush sr. used to have some nice brown locks, and Bush jr used to have some too. Obama didn't have any gray, until he got in office, you can tell he uses hair dye xD.

Anyways back on topic, the recent decades of haphazard politics are coming home to roost. Prez Obama can complain all he wants but this is and always has been a culmination of choices made over the last 3 decades. I do understand that electing Obama didn't make it possible for him to wave a magic wand and all the problems would disappear (which sadly some people seem to think was what would happen). Although I do agree most republicans would probably try and use the same stratagy that was used in the past and expect different results, when in fact it will make sure the US will take decades more to recover. Just have to take into account the crash of '29, with the exception that the crash of 2000 requires that the use make itself more valuable on the global market as of compared to only having to improve the national market of 1929

4 ( +5 / -1 )

YuriOtani, the "scare" is very real. Global economics have been balanced on the edge of a depression since 2008. Where have you been? If the reality of global economics is not enough to frighten you, then perhaps the problem is with you and not reality. It is time to wake up and recognize the very real state of global economics and that of the US.

I am not a full fan of Obama, I think he has been weak on issues he should have fought harder for. But I am very worried by the pack of inept potentials on the GOP side this election as well. I see no bright lights of hope on either side.

The key fact is this. If we do not find ways to reverse the current trends we invite a recession and possibly a depression. The working people of America and the world are at risk here, and they are all I care about regardless of their political stripe.

We need a new FDR who is not afraid to spend and create jobs, demand and stimulation of the economy. A leader who can tell industry to stand aside for the interests of the masses. And a leader who can shatter this polarization that is turning America into the world's political nightmare.

Working people need to take to the streets now and demand the place of priority in politics that they deserve. Perhaps tossing out both existing parties who have long represented wealth and not working people.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

It's hard to have faith in government when they are making it so easy to despise them.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Republicans are just interested in the White House. They'll cripple the economy as long as it helps them accomplish that goal, but if/when they do get the White House back you're going to see quite a few broken campaign promises. Right now they're just interested in dragging the country down because Obama is President of it.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Repubs and Dems are BOTH to blame for taking the US economy to the brink. Kinda like the pot calling the kettle "black". More government programs are NOT what's needed, quite the opposite. Both parties are wrong. FDR got the ball rolling with his Socialist programs that have BALLOONED into the current monstrosity. No, what's needed is to END the entitlement programs altogether(phased out over a relatively short term, but not suddenly), and to put a stop to the totally wasteful spending. Like a baby being weaned, there'll be plenty of crying. Just look at what's happening in Greece! Obama's done. If not, then the US will be done. Either way, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Let Freedom Ring!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The Republican created economic disaster was already is full swing before GWB left office. He systematically started his transfer of wealth to the privileged few at the expense of the masses. his policies created the financial meltdown of the world's economy that started on American soil and erupted into a global disaster. While the U.S. are still trying to dig out of the hole his administration created, the largest transfer of wealth in the history of our great country happened during his reign of ruin.

The U.S. can't fix in four years what bush and co. did in eight, it is just impossible. But, the future can be better if American voters remember what the Republicans did between 2000-2008.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Obama says Republicans would 'cripple' U.S.

Haven't they already?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Sorry Jean Val Jean but you are entirely wrong here. Intelligent, focused spending is exactly what is needed in the US and in Japan. You cannot stimulate growth without spending. You cannot restart the economy without spending. Thinking otherwise is sheer fantacy.

What the US needs are jobs. Job creation will not come from the private sector who are worried about long term economic decline, or from large companies trying to push up profits. This is propaganda and wishful thinking.

What WILL create jobs is spending on programs that will put people back to work. US infrastructure is in serious decline. Repairing and rebuilding it would drive up spending in the near term, but would generate jobs and tax income. The projects would fuel confidence by small to mid size companies who service these projects and would drive up employment and create downstream stimulus for communities.

Roads, bridges, schools, community rebuilding projects, new energy development, technology development etc... will help grow jobs.

Then, tax the hell out of companies that send their production abroad. And give substantial breaks to those who re-import manufacturing and production jobs to the US.

As for "Let Freedom Ring." Our forefathers were not all about "every man for himself" which the Tea Party and Libertarians in the US would like us to believe. They had better common sense to know that if your neighbor is suffering, you soon will be too as we are a community and society interdependent upon each other. If your definition of liberty is being left alone, untaxed and unburdened by others, you had better seek refuge on a desert island somewhere because that is now what a society is all about friend.

President Obama smears his opposition because he knows he cannot run on his record.Millions of 20- and 30-year-old Americans meanwhile, move back in with their parents, put off marriage and have careers on hold.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

"Obama says Republicans would 'cripple' US"

"Haven't they already?"

Heck no, the U.S. STILL has troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and a bunch of other countries!

Sushi: "his ( Bush's ) policies created the financial meltdown"

Come on Sushi, even Bill Clinton had admitted the Democrats had a hand in that one.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

He systematically started his transfer of wealth to the privileged few at the expense of the masses. his policies created the financial meltdown of the world's economy that started on American soil and erupted into a global disaster.

If it was sytematic, and benefited only a select few, it should be very easy to trace...

Someone signed me up for junk mail with a guy named Ralph Nader. I kept tossing them. Finally read one. Actually seems to have his act together. Anyone really know any thing about this guy? I think an alternative to the other parties might refresh the country.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Yup, Obama's going on the attack now; expect to hear this type of language with increasing volume and frequency. Frank Rich has a comprehensive take here: http://nymag.com/news/frank-rich/bipartisanship-2011-10/

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As the saying goes: when your brother-in-law is unemployed, its a recession; when you are unemployed, its a depression; and when Obama is unemployed, its a recovery!!!!

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

All this propaganda has people pointing the finger at whoever the latest news report tells them to point it at. why is it that the US government and its people willingly and constantly go to war in countries that they cant even pronounce the names of, let alone know anything about, while they leave their own people in poverty, with no jobs or future to look forward to. absolutely baffling!

if america is so great than people stand up and fight for yourselves. dont let these politicians dictate your thoughts! think for yourself and question their motives. another hour you sit at home watching the world go by is another hour your sons and daughters die overseas, and another hour of happiness in your lives that could have been. stop thinking about POTENTIAL threats from overseas and start thinking about the CURRENT situation at home.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Cripple the U.S.? Hell, in eight years they crippled the entire world!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Anything far right or far left is what is and will continue to cripple America. Just as obama is far left, he alienates the center and right and thus cannot do anything. Same as if a far right or tea party member were to become president, they would alienate the center and the left, prompting a similar situation to now...nothing getting done. America needs more politicians that are more center orientated. But that is not happening, and that is why America isnt going to be crippled...it already is. Obamas extremism is the same problem and the republican extremism. Hes the same problem.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Democrats are just interested in the White House. They'll cripple the economy as long as it helps them accomplish that goal, but if/when they do keep the White House you're going to see quite a few broken campaign promises. Right now they're just interested in dragging the country down because Obama wants to be President of it again.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I'd say the spending binge ( Both under the Democrats and Republicans) and the massive accrued debt is what is really crippling the U.S. The Obama administration is having a fit because the national credit card is now totally maxed out, it can't get its spending under control and it can't get its hands on more OPM (other peoples money) through tax hikes.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why is Obama annoyed?

Because he wanted to cripple it!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

@Tatanka: ROTFLMAO!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Someone signed me up for junk mail with a guy named Ralph Nader. I kept tossing them. Finally read one. Actually seems to have his act together. Anyone really know any thing about this guy? I think an alternative to the other parties might refresh the country.

No one really special. Almost the equivalent of Ron Paul. The only thing both will do is upset and siphon off votes and will ensure that Obama will get a second term.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

f america is so great than people stand up and fight for yourselves. dont let these politicians dictate your thoughts! think for yourself and question their motives.

We DO fight and it's called the election process. We fight by going to the ballad box. This is why as the President, you get 4 years, if you do a good job, you can get another 4 years, that's 2 terms, 8 years. Since Obama is NOT doing a good job, he'll get just 2 years-1 term.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Farmboy,

I couldn't believe anyone woud want to pick up the pieces after GWB. I guess many have realized this 4 years on and are waiting for better times before presenting themselves.

The Repub line-up for the minute ranges from the amusing to the quite frightening at the minute.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The US is owned and operated by special interest groups. The sole remaining function of the president, aside from being commander in chief of the armed forces, is to appoint justices to the US Supreme Court. It is interesting, but not surprising, that the justices always vote along the lines of the party of the president who appointed them. They enjoy lifetime tenure, and the court has a stranglehold on such vital issues as minority rights, abortion, gun control and freedom of speech and assembly. Frankly, the judicial branch of the US government has become as rotten as the rest of the system, if not more so. Nothing is going to change, and nothing is going to get better. The US is moving toward becoming an oligarchy like the banana republics in Latin America. Eventually most of its citizens will be able to expect the same standard of living as well. Sad.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@yanee - Tatanka stole that from Reagan, heh heh.

"Cripple the U.S.? Hell, in eight years they ( the Republicans ) crippled the entire world!"

China, Russia and India are crippled?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Republicans seem masters at scaring the middle class that they will suffer as a result of taxing the extremely wealthy. Is that vanity or stupidity? There are so many people utilising tax loopholes to maintain their income whilst millions can't even pay a health bill. Something is wrong.

At least there are now semi wealthy people standing up and admitting they could be taxed more.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Is that vanity or stupidity?"

Heh, it's stupidity.

Stupidity born from acute partisanship, since most of them probably haven't a pot to piss in. But I imagine those uber-rich who are concerned by any tax hike have a little smile about said stupidity.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Democrats seem masters at making many people think that increasing taxes on the rich is going to help solve the government's debt problem. I'm not rich, but I'm not jealous of rich people, and I don't think raising taxes on anyone in a recession is a good idea.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't think raising taxes on anyone in a recession is a good idea.

Not to mention spending cuts. This admin. is spending us into the point of oblivion and there is no stopping Obama. I always point to California as a role model for what's to come in the rest of the U.S. if Obama gets another 4 years, there is no way we could survive that. Even if Obama taxed at 100% all of the highest 3% earners, it wouldn't even cover 1/3 of Americas financial problem.

Yay, you and I are on the same page. Well said..

The US is owned and operated by special interest groups.

This is quite a serious assertion.I can't be the only reader who would like names of these groups.Who controls America? The author of the statement fails to provide any reason to believe him...

How can the United States continue to keep a major military machine when we have to borrow money from China? (Borrow to the point that perhaps we can repay our debt to China someday by ceding Hawaii or Alaska to China.) I am a Democrat, not a Republican, so maybe not as fiscally savvy as the conservative mind, but I know that one cannot have income without having product or service in some form. (Not unless you borrow, which is exactly what we are doing!)

I think that most of the "Captains of Industry" are probably Republicans. It is that ilk who have shipped out complete factories to China and India, et al and outsourced personnel and jobs to other nations. Also, they imported "skilled" labor from other countries to these shores even when we had the talent here and wanting to work.

Complain as they might about President Obama's policies, they are - and have been the problem! The problem which President Obama has tried to fix under the poor conditions set up by his predecessor and, of course, without any support from the other side of the aisle. Oh, I know that NAFTA was signed by President Clinton, but I am also aware that it was forged By President H W Bush and that several presidents, such as President Reagan and even Clinton touted it as "good for the country, good for the worker and good for the economy." Hogwash! GATT, NAFTA, and the upcoming "prosperity" projects can suck wind, as far as I'm concerned. At least, as long as we have the labor/manufacturing/production gaps that we now have.

It is shameful that the partisanship in Washington renders the adage, "Loyal Opposition" as null and void now, because, without that idea flourishing, the motto, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" comes starkly into play! - and we are headed for failure simply because of the lack of unity.

President Bush squandered our monies on wars that were badly researched and poorly planned. I could cite the waste and even theft but I'm sure that you are as aware of the reports of such abuses as well as I am.

Since we are becoming poorer, it is fitting and suitable that we downsize our military.

I don't count at all on the Republican Party to address or repair these wrongs. Far from it! They will merely exacerbate the situation if they get in. More military spending. More outsourcing. More McJobs, more unemploymant, much more dissatisfaction and disillusionment among the electorate and consequently, apathy among so many, that more wrong will be committed. It's the beginning of the slide "down the tubes".

Perry? Fat chance! Romney? Bachmann, Palin? the others? Give me a break! C'mon! Who are we trying to fool here again?

President Obama is my choice for 2012 once more simply because the alternative is disaster!

You know what happens when people have just had enough.

Canada is looking good these days. Anyone want to buy a house in California?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If Obama was the CEO of a company he would have long been kicked out by the shareholders because he is ineffective as a leader. He has no control in the houses and not enough clout or respect to sway a majority pull on any of the bills or reforms he tries to enact. Obama is the only President to see the economy drop even more every time he opens his mouth. Blame the republicans all you want, but it is his JOB to get reforms passed that better the nation. The FACT that he cannot do so means he is an ineffective leader and would be fired if he worked at any company in the states.

Perry, Romney, Bachmann and Palin are all whackos that will have the same problem Obama has now. Because your Obamas and your Palins are to far to one side or the other, when in reality most Americans lie somewhere in the middle. I hope the Huntsman wins the republican ballot...he seems to be the most in the middle out of all the candidates. But Obama has proven that he is a cripple as president and cant move anything.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The Republicans aired their manifesto the moment that Obama was elected. Rush Limbaugh led the charge with, "I hope he fails". The appellation, "The party of NO", came into being immediately after the inauguration. This is no big secret. With opposition like that, the words, "clout" and "sway" are meaningless. President Obama IS the CEO of the USA and he will NOT be kicked out by the shareholders, (who happen to be his faithful and hopeful electorate.) Rather, the obstructionists will be kicked out as soon as they are up for renewal of their jaded posts. Like it or not, many nations point their fingers at the USA and accuse it of racism. They are correct - because it is THAT which lies at the dirty root of the problem. Our debt was increased by President Obama by 16%, compared to GW Bush's 115%, Clinton's 37%, GHW Bush's 55% and Ronald Reagan's whopping 189%. THEY sure could build consensus, couldn't they? THEY did not receive the flak that this President is getting. I have already stated why!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Umioso you fail to realize that Obama cannot do his job. Party or no or whatever...its his job to do something, which he cant. So you wanna let him off the hook because hes black? Just because I hold somebody accountable to their job and they happen to be black does not mean im a racist.

Obama isnt getting issues passed because is a too extreme liberal. Not because of the color of his skin. Obama gets cut sooo many excuses on why he cant do his job when in reality he should be fired.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It's time for the president to be tough with republicans. He has spent his entire presidency reaching across the aisle, only to have his hand smacked.

Not once have the republicans compromised to meet Obama. They have given nothing. Obama has conceded and conceded to the point he is looked upon as being weak, not as being a diplomat.

It's time for him to take control and give boehner, cantor and mcconnell the smack down the American public thinks they deserve.

Taka

NObama is the biggest joke of a president America has ever had next to the idiot Jimmy Carter!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Republicans are low, low down thieves. They will back stab you in a heart beat! Republicans in my humble opinion were behind the murder of JFK, who wanted to wind down the Vietnam war and use less billions and billions of $$$$ on that stupid war, now Mr.Obama is trying to get us out of the stupid wars in Iraq, Afghanistan etc..that REPUBLICANS got us into and Mr.Bush, Mr, DICK Cheney etc..made millions and millions of $$$$$$$, this is not me blowing hot air, read Michael Moores books, Chomsky etc... Republicans will tell us Latinos, Blacks, Poor Whites, poor Asians to prove our loyalty to the USA, go to war, come back with a Purple Heart etc..when THEY make a war and THEY make all the $$$$$, sorry Republicans, the jig is up, how about bastard Republicans prove that they are not destroying the US economy, putting stones in every inch of the way when Mr. Obama, our elected US president does try to make more jobs etc..WHY?? The rich white men who run the Republican party only care about themselves, about $$$$$ about power and keeping more $$$$$ and power for themselves, so I just want to disagree with our president, Mr.Obama, the Republicans will destroy the US, no, they have been destroying, milking the USA for so many years, the last straws were the BUSH administration. See what Rush Limbaughs brain washed ditto heads have to say to this?? Geez I should call his show up on my Skype! So my fellow Americans, time to really see what our president elect Mr.Obama is really trying to do, to help us, the men and women working 2 or 3 jobs just to try and make ends meet and to try to get the rich to pay a bit more taxes, get rid of the loop holes that EX Prez Bush made for himself and for all of his rich family and friends. May the Gods/Buddha bless the USA and all of our world.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

To JapanGal, sorry, I like Ralph Nader, but he is not a DEMOCRAT nor a Republican and yes, there are other parties, but have they ever WON any major presidential election in the USA? NO! So, sure Mr.Nader has great ideas, but if he had any common sense he would understand that 3rd political parties in the USA have NO CHANCE of ever winning a presidential election, so when my little sister back in California voted for Mr.Nader I let her know she wasted her vote but we were both happy Mr.OBAMA won anyway, but at least she voted not like all of these other people who go around complaining about the USA but never ever bother to even REGISTER to vote, here in Japan for the US elections, Overseas US voters association is online so JapanGal if you have some American friends who can vote for OBAMA let them know ok?? For Obama, not Mr.Nader etc..ok?? Yoroshiku ne!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

There is still no co-sponsor for Obama's latest excuse of a jobs bill. The party is not behind him. Will it take the frickin media to break this to him?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Elbuda calls the republicans thieves, but I am pretty sure its the democrats that want to take money from private citizens that have cash and give it to those that dont. That is theft.
