Regardless of the domestic American situation, Obama remains one of the most popular US presidents on the international stage. Whether you love him or loathe him, he's done an amazing job of restoring some of America's international image after the debacle that was the W. Bush era.

I'd rather we return to the traditions of the 19th century, when American presidents never traveled outside the country.

Travel times in the 19th century were so long that, unless you were visiting a bordering country, the time spent away from your duties would be unrealistically long. In modern times, even if the "defecation hits the rotary wind mechanism", a country's leader can be back in his office within 18 hours regardless of where he had been the day before. A nation's leader creates much more "oomph" when they visit as compared to a visit by a Secretary of State/Foreign Minister. With travel as fast as it is now, you'll never see world leaders go back to the isolationism of the 19th century.
