Do you honestly think that the US is worse than NK? How many counties can the people of NK visit in their lifetimes? America is not perfect, but lower than NK?

I've been advocating the lifting up on restrictions with Cuba for a long time. I'm glad to see this move. Another promise met. < :-)

Pretty much everyone either wants to see the ban lifted or they just don't really care...except for Cuban-Americans.

I am a Cuban American and I would like to see the ban lifted......The ban is a waste, it has done nothing to end communism. The only thing it has done is made Cuba look for help among the anti-American crowd.
If the ban was lifted and US businesses began to invest in Cuba then the hardliners would lose their grip on the nation.
Now the folks that want the ban to continue are the Cubans that have dreams of political power. They are the old guard/the far right Cubans.
If you want to know what the old guard is thinking (and know Spanish) then turn to Radio Mambí 710am on the dial. You can listen to it live online also.
As for my generation 35-45, we are split 60% for normal relation and 40% for continued embargo.
The younger generation are more and more in favor of normal relations with Cuba.

However, let's get a few things striaght, Cuba is not communist at all, instead it is a dictatorship. Yes, Cuba went and got help from the anti-American crowd and you fail to mention that it has also allowed Fidel to line his pockets and made him stronger. Yes, the embargo has failed but that is more because of the inability of the UN.
Now the folks that want the ban to continue are the Cubans that have dreams of political power. They are the old guard/the far right Cubans." No, many of us who hail from Miami want a lot that has been taken back. People who have been imprisoned released and many many who have committed crimes against people sought.
The younger generation are more and more in favor of normal relations with Cuba." That is more to do with the world becoming left. No one here is going to listen to anything about Cuba even if its in English. No, they prefer to get their info from Micheal Moore and attack people like "The Real Cuba" site, even gone as far as trying to have it shut down.
So, any of you out there who would like to have a better insight on what goes on, go to http://therealcuba.com/ in both English and Spanish.

Lift the embargo;Castro will basically just reinstate it from his end.
He wants tourists, yes.
The other aspects of globalization are too terrifying for control freak Lefties like Fidel.

That was classic, the world is becoming more leftist. I must say that that insight into our world as it stands today is completely flawed. The world is not becoming more leftist, the world is actually becoming more moderate.
When Bush and his far right gang came to power they brought such a far right neo-con wave with them that they hurt us abroad. Their ,"do it our way or suffer" strategy really hurt us.
Now that the neo cons have been removed, folks in the far right start to fear that the world is becoming more leftist. But the reason they are no longer in power is because their beliefs were flawed.
The far right philosophy does not work. Bush and gang have proved that with the complete loss of South America to the Communist. Not to mention the possible loss of Central America.
Cuba is the center of the war against Communism. If the U.S. changes Cuba into a more moderate nation. By opening the embargo then that is a good thing for our nation. Because the anchor of Communism will fall. The other nations that saw Cuba as a bastion of Communism will be forced to re-thing their positions.
How did the U.S. defeat the Soviets? How did the Soviets fall to their kneel and collapse? Was it the far right policy? Was it Ronald Reagan? Was it through the fear of war? How did the Soviets fall?
The Soviets fell because of Blue Jeans. Yeppers the might of the American Blue Jeans brought the mighty red machine to it's knees. You may think I am silly but what do every citizen of Communist Cuba want?
But what the people want is a few nice pairs of Blue Jeans to go out and show off to their friends. Not any Blue Jeans, they want Levis.
Open the embargo slowly, give the people a reason to want to go out and shop. The more they want the more food and drink will mean nothing.
Want, want of more is the biggest motivator of change. How did Castor come to power? He promised the poor they would be well off.
Want will bring a revolution, want will drive the Cubans to fight.
