This article is only partially true. These children have been flown to many states throughout the USA to reunite with illegal parents. Their is little to no chance they will ever return to Central America.

When the Big 'O' administration opened the floodgate with the amnesty idea these Future Undocumented Workers (must be politically correct these days you know) swarmed the boarder. They will continue until a strong stance is made.

And now the Big 'O' administration want money to fix the problem. This administration continues to waste hardworking American taxpayers money so well. Or just print more dollars on that money press.

This is just one more nail in this presidents his admin and Democrats coffin. They just sealed their fate.

I'd like to know what he's smoking these days.

"Undocumented" in any country means illegal. Other than bona fide asylum-seekers, their act of entering illegally should only earn deportation and banishment. That applies to any person entering any country illegally. Do Not Pass GO, Do Not Collect $200.

"Other than bona fide asylum-seekers, their act of entering illegally should only earn deportation and banishment."

Sure, but then you'd get an uproar from the thousands of businesses in the US that happily employ semi-slave labor. Half America's restaurants would shut down, just for starters.

Seems like the the top three posters above are a little deficient in their facts. Let's look at some:

Deportations of illegal aliens under Obama have hit record highs; Deportation of Mexicans in the US illegally is easy: Take them to a border crossing and release them; Deportation of Central Americans is complicated; they must be flown home; Deportation of minors is particularly complicated as contact with family members must be made - they can't simply be flown home; Certain Central American countries are rife with the rumor that unaccompanied minors will be allowed to stay in the US, while in fact, they will not; This rumor may have been sparked by the proposed DREAM Act legislation, but the two are completely unrelated; Republicans in Congress have badgered for years for more emphasis on border security and repatriating illegal aliens; Obama just proposed more emphasis on border security and repatriating illegal aliens, and some of the more conservative members on this board get angry.

Perhaps their preferred proposal is that of their previous, failed presidential candidate: telling a 10-year old Guatemalan child to "self-deport." It might save money, but it is neither feasible nor humane.

If the border is so secure, then how is it that minor children can just walk across and give up to the nearest Border Patrol. I would believe yout stats if the Border Patrol were going across the border to Mexico and picking up the people who are waving their arms in the air to rescue them, but these people are surrendering on US soil, after they have crossed a supposedly secure border.

The First Lady of Honduras recently toured one of these holding facilities. The proper response should have been "how many of your countrymen can you take back in your plane" instead we get lectures from her on how we should be taking care of her citizens.

If the border wasn't secure, then how would they be catching all these people trying to cross it?

"....and some of the more conservative members on this board get angry."

They hate Obama and they're in desperate need of something -- anything - to bash him with. They're nearly always wrong, but being right isn't the point. The important thing is feeling good about an outdated worldview that is crumbling in face of "facts" and "reality."

The countries sending their children to the U.S. should pay the bill!!!

They hate Obama and they're in desperate need of something -- anything - to bash him with.

Like the way you guys do Bush on an hourly basis? Gets annoying, doesn't it?

They're nearly always wrong, but being right isn't the point.

So when is the president right????

The important thing is feeling good about an outdated worldview that is crumbling in face of "facts" and "reality."

And uh, what did Obama's worldview get us, not to mention, Iraq, Syria or even Afghanistan?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

If the border wasn't secure, then how would they be catching all these people >trying to cross it?

Simple, they are crossing the border and after they get on the US side, they just wait there until the Boder Patrol arrives. They "self import" rather than "self deport." There are certain sectors where they know Border Patrol will be, and the go there and wait. In the past, they would cross and hope not to get caught, but now they are hoping to get caught.

Perhaps their preferred proposal is that of their previous, failed presidential candidate: telling a 10-year old Guatemalan child to "self-deport." It might save money, but it is neither feasible nor humane.

As I mentioned, they seem to find a way to "self import" why can't they "self deport?" They have been able to make it the 3,000 mile trek from Central America to the US Border without the support of US welfare and other social services, so why can't they go back home that way.

It's not in humane for the USA to return them home via a plane ride. It is more humane than having a 10 year old child making a 3,000 mile trek by themselves, put into the hands of smugglers who may want to do them harm just to come to America for a chance for a better life. If they are willing to sacrifice children and pregnant women for this trip, then I have a simple solution. Use that daring and energy, and turn it against the ruling class in your home country and demand for better chances and opportunities for the people there, instead of having to send your future generations to another country to be taken care of.

I love it when those who say that these illegal immigrants will do the jobs that Americans will not do, so please tell me, what jobs do 10 year olds and younger have to do in America now that American 10 year olds and younger are not willing to do now? Or are they willing to go to the overcrowded public schools where English is not the primary language of learning and must be taught basic English to begin to pick up on an American education, all at the expense of legal US residents.

Fix the border, and tell other countries that it is your responsibility to take care of your own. I find it interesting that many on the left said that we should not be doing nation building in Iraq (and I agree) when "W" was in office. Well, we should not be doing nation building for Honduras and other Central American countries on the backs of US taxpayers in the form of welfare and other social services by having their citizens enter the US illegally. The money they will eventually wire back to their countries will not only go to help their families, but also make the owners of the wire remittance companies very rich. Don't believe me, Carlos Slim, the world's richest man is Mexican. He owns the rights to the wire remittance companies and telephone industry (i.e. cheap calling cards and plans to Mexico) in Mexico. What is the biggest source of his income, from people living and working in the USA (some illegal) sending money back to Mexico using his services.

It seems that the Occupy movement kept on yelling "tax the 1%" to help out the rest of America, well I for one believe that the rich in these Central American nations need to start helping out their own and not rely on the US taxpayer.

So when is the president right????

Uh, Bass - the GOP has, on numerous occasions, demanded strengthened actions against illegal immigrants. Obama has just requested funding to strengthen America's ability to do just that.

Just like an "independent conservative" to suddenly be against what they were for the instant the President is for it, too. Monday, when Congress reconvenes after celebrating the 4th, will undoubtedly display contortions that would make a Chinese acrobat blanch.

These illegal immigrants must not know the U.S. government has a more than $17 trillion national debt. Actually, even if they know, it doesn't matter to them, life north of the border is way better than south of the border.

Yeah, so how's he doing so far? You think on God's green Earth, that he's going to deport these illegal aliens? I doubt it and don't give me, he deported more illegals than any other president, there is a recurrence of many of them that are coming back because of the severe conditions in their countries, mostly Mexico, but as far as Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala are concerned, it remains to be seen.

them at the border (which would also be legally problematic - no matter if they passed through Mexico, the US can not simply dump them on their doorstep - Mexico also has no legal obligation to take them).

It's not in humane for the USA to return them home via a plane ride. It is more humane than having a 10 year old child making a 3,000 mile trek by themselves, put into the hands of smugglers who may want to do them harm just to come to America for a chance for a better life.

This makes vastly more sense. You'll also notice that this is exactly what Obama is proposing.

we need to build up our military and tighten up our borders first before anything else, that should be first priority!

Thank you for your unswerving principles.

bass: and don't give me, he deported more illegals than any other president

Well, he has. Why wouldn't that be a talking point in this conversation?

You libs bring that up constantly, kinda the same talking point about Bush.

Except that the new way of calculating deportations includes the many refused entry at birder checkpoints unlike in the past.

So what's happening here is that Obama is doing something you support, so you've created an alternate reality in your mind where he's not. Sounds about right.

SuperL: "So what's happening here is that Obama is doing something you support, so you've created an alternate reality in your mind where he's not. Sounds about right."

As usual, you couldn't be further from the truth.

" Consider the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) report on year-end removal numbers for fiscal year 2013. ICE reported a total of 368,644 removals for the year (down considerably from the 409,949 removals reported the previous year).

The ICE report noted that of those 368,644 removals, 235,093 (or nearly two-thirds) were carried out on individuals “apprehended while, or shortly after, attempting to illegally enter the United States.” This shows that while the Obama administration continues to deport illegal immigrants in large numbers, most of these removals do not constitute a “deportation” in the conventional sense.

Activists fighting to end deportations argue that, while the people being deported are here illegally, they’ve been living in the country for some time, often with relatives or children of their own — hence the charge that deportations “break up families.” Cases like these exist, but as the ICE data show, they are the minority. For the most part, the Obama administration is “deporting” people it catches in the act of entering the country illegally.

In fact, the Department of Homeland Security’s own guidelines distinguish between “removals” and “returns.” According to DHS, a removal is defined as “the compulsory and confirmed movement of an inadmissible or deportable alien out of the United States based on an order of removal.”

Returns, meanwhile, are defined as “the confirmed movement of an inadmissible or deportable alien out of the United States not based on an order of removal. Most of the voluntary returns are of Mexican nationals who have been apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol and are returned to Mexico.” The primary difference between the two categories is that removals are processed by ICE, while returns are not."
