There is no one more qualified to organize communities than the community organizer.

Sarge, I think you missed the fact that the event was hosted by George H.W. Bush. Do you suppose he was sarcastic when he said,

“Our 44th president is absolutely right,” Bush said as he was introducing Obama. “There isn’t a more important time than now for us all to get involved.”

If Poppa Bush can agree with Obama, why can't the good Sargeant for once?

Community organizing is a great idea, as-long-as it isn't done with money from the government. Bush 41 believes more in community service based primarily on the resources of individuals and companies in the community. Presdient Obama believes in community organizing with taxpayers footing the bill (ala ACORN). There is a big difference between the two. Obama views community service as a means to his political ends. Bush sees it as a way to feed, house and cloth the poor.

I watched the speech today. I enjoyed the comments from both presidents.

It was a non-political moment when the two could do some good. < :-)

Wolfpack, thanks for articulating the differences in generalized, black-and-white terms that your average dittohead can digest. Obama = big evil government cash handouts, and Bush = good honest folks lending a hand.

Mr. President. We pay far too much in taxes and that is going to go up. No, instead of remodeling your offices, holding banquets, high priced dinners, hiring worthless staff, taking your extended vacations and days off YOU and every elected official serve our communities for once.

And if you don't want to serve our communities, move out of our way so we can fix what is wrong in our communities... much of what you guys caused.

    How dare you ask this.

People can take heart in our president's message. Unemployment may be high but its a great time to be unemployed in America.

Lead by example, Mr. President. Lead by example.

Jow about serving your country, I would think that would be more important.

Lead by example, Mr. President. Lead by example.. Wow. How many Presidents have been community organisers prior to Obama? The closest example of helping the community that Bush the elder can cite is flying a plane in world war two. While praiseworthy in itself, technically I don't think it is volunteer work.
