Obama insisted he had no intention of taking their guns and said that he skeet shoots from time to time at Camp David, a presidential retreat near Washington.

Wonder if he's any good. For some reason though, I just cannot picture the guy "shooting" at those flying clay disks, and pumping another shotgun shell into his "shotgun."

Hahaha. Who does he think he is fooling? He is toxic. No candidate wants him campaigning for them. They are all trying to see who can out-distance themselves the most from him.

You're kidding yourself if you believe that.

“Obama wants your guns.”

That's right, Ted. Keep the lies simple and stupid to match your supporters.

Nothing Town-Hall about this event. This show by Obama and CNN was held at George Mason University and closed to the students and the general public. Invitation only. They weasel around that by labeling it a "town hall style." All scripted. And this is leadership? Coward.

@WC I just cannot picture the guy "shooting"

What you're saying makes me think of a military pogue at the range, the only place he knows how to use firearms. Funny sight for sure!

Heh, the guy popularity with voters is hovering around 40 percent. To have the Divider-in-Chief campaign for you is a political death warrant for any democrat or RINO running for public office; even dog catcher.

I’ve been very good for gun manufacturers

Indeed, he has. Every time he opens his mouth about gun control, another million firearms and countless rounds of ammo flies off the shelves across America.

Go, Obama, go . . .

Indeed, they don't want the public to realize that so many people are opposed to his plans.

You just love it, don't you. The celebration of death for the sake of 'manliness'. Reminds me of some of other group the fringe right in America demonizes, ironically. Begins with the letter "I".

Background checks! What's the problem? Afraid of something? Afraid of being rejected from your 2nd Amendment well-regulated militia? Amazing how a rational argument can get spun into such a mess.

Or should I cynically discount/deride that Obama is an erudite, reasoned, compassionate progressive. With faults, of course, but somehow unforgivable because of his je-ne-sais-quoi otherness.

I don't think any of these candidates want Obama to campaign for them in the first place. In the last midterm election Obama's endorsement of some candidates was something of a "kiss of death", many of those he campaigned for lost their seats, and his party lost it's majority in the senate, as well as doing poorly in the house of representatives. Many democrat candidates prefer to keep Obama as far away from their campaigns as possible.

Were this 2008 or 2012, and Obama himself were up for election or reelection, he would make no mention whatsoever about gun control laws. A great many gun owners are not white, middle-aged men, many are women, gays, and bleeding-heart liberals.

"He (Obama) also challenged America’s most prominent pro-gun lobby, the National Rifle Association, for not taking part in the event."

“There is a reason why the NRA is not here,” Obama said. “They are just down the street. And since this is the main reason they exist, you’d think they would be prepared to have a debate with the president.”

Why wouldn't the NRA happily present their record of achievement as a shining example of how effective gun control is in the States? (Since the NRA writes the laws that Congress and States adopt on gun control.)

As posted before, the NRA will not appear in any public forum except the ones where they have absolute control. Who wants to answer all those pesky questions about felons buying guns at gun shows? Americans don't care about that.

Maybe, National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, hasn't the guts to go toe to toe with the President? The NRA always seems so certain the deaths of children by handguns is just "what the Founders envisioned". Why not present the "deaths of children required by the Second Amendment" argument?

Why wouldn't the NRA happily present their record of achievement?

Not with blood on their hands of twenty five and six year old children and their six heroic teachers slaughtered at Newtown, Connecticut.

One background check away from saving twenty-six lives. And the NRA still stands in the way of Congress taking ANY action.

The NRA will stick to selling nuts guns. That's what their good at.

What's a few dead American children one way or the other anyhow?

I am glad he does not want to be a mental prostitute to those who are against the new gun laws. He is a character and I like that. I am giving my full support to President Obama. Let' move ahead for change! I am ready! Hope you will too.

One background check away from saving twenty-six lives

Pure nonsense. The weapon the guy used and the others he brought to the elementary school belonged to his mother. She purchased the firearms legally (meaning a background check was conducted prior to purchase), and had a permit to own them. . . .

Actually I agree with Obama on the background checks it can save lives unless there are some bribes...

Not many candidates want the incumbent campaigning for them. They usually want to be seen as something fresh and new. I don't recall Bush stumping very hard for McCain.

I like that Texas up there is touting the fact that guns used in a massacre were bought legally as an argument against gun control. I don't think this executive order will make so much as a dent in gun violence, but Texas and his ilk seem to think the answer is either A) do nothing, or B) arm EVERYONE. I also like that snide comment about Obama causing more guns and ammo to be sold. Yeah, to nutcase racist militia people who think the US Army was about to invade a certain big state. Those people have been filled with a lot of completely insane propaganda that used to be found only on the far reaches of the rightmost AM stations on the dial and only in the earliest morning hours. Now they have an entire network that propagates falsehoods and stirs up racism while simultaneously calling Obama the "Divider in Chief" among other cutesy pejoratives based on projecting.

Sometimes when I get bummed out about something about living in Japan all I have to do is read a few comments of his here and suddenly I remember what I left behind and once again it's like the sakura are blooming in ol' Nihon.

Actually, I advocate option C) enforce the laws that are already on the books.

Heh, on one side of their mouth the liberal echo chamber believes American's rights are subject to their opinions (like outlawing all guns); but then on the other side of their mouth they support Obama, The nation's top domestic gun salesman of this century. They should to stick to one DNC Super PAC/MSM source to poach their "thoughts" from. . . .

And closing loopholes to those laws, right?

And closing loopholes to those laws, right?

As long as closing loopholes don't prevent a single individual that can get guns now, from being able to get them in the future. Including those on the no-fly list: http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/nra-defends-allowing-people-on-no-fly-lists-to-buy-guns/

U.S. President Barack Obama vowed not to campaign or vote for any candidate who does not support tighter gun laws, as he rallied support for contentious executive measures.

Getting an endorsement from Obama has been the kiss of death for many Democrat candidates in the past. Democrat candidates may chose to not publically support Obama's tighter gun laws just to prevent Obama from endorsing them.

For the gun club . . . "the answer is either A) do nothing, or B) arm EVERYONE. I also like that snide comment about Obama causing more guns and ammo to be sold. Yeah, to nutcase racist militia people" - comments

Why is this the most sensible observation?

"Sometimes when I get bummed out about something about living in Japan all I have to do is read a few comments of his here and suddenly I remember what I left behind and once again it's like the sakura are blooming in ol' Nihon."

Sad, actually. Thanks for that.
