I still haven't understood what the republicans are afraid of by trying any of the Gitmo detainees in civilian courts. They all weren't caught on the battle field. < :-)

They all weren't caught on the battle field." so those caught in the battle field should go through the mil?
why is it so important to you that they are all comfty and getting a very over fair trial? did you feel that way for the Germans, Japanese, etc....?
I don't understand you telling us we have no right of an opinion on this. The trial should be in a place where neither their supporters nor their enemies should be able to make grand standing statements. You know damn well if they let this trail go in NYC, you are going to have both groups battle it out and people are going to get hurt..... all because you want to send a message to deaf ears!

Hey Libertas, I wasn't the one that authored that. These guys deserve nothing more than what enemies from the past had recieved. Why do you find them to above all others?
Oh, and you call these guys men?

Skip, as an Independant, you seem to have caught the conservative 'they're ALL guilty' bug, when neither you nor prosecutors actually know, or have decided in many cases. You enter very dangerous territory when you start believing that every detainee is guilty. Even you know that's just not thd case.

Let's face it - some detainees could have been neighbors of bad guys when they were swept up. Not only is labelling all detainees criminals an exercise in ignorance, but let's face it - if we all did that, why bother with a court system?

sushi.... why do they deserve any better than other Japanese, Germans, Italians and what have you from the past?
What other countries, since that has been a very much spouted cliche of yours lately, gives their enemies such rights? Now, my question to aday earlier that went unanswered was that you know all too well the chaos that is potentially to happen. You are going to have their supporters against their opposer and the potential escalation of that may turn out to be bad and you are willing for such chaos to appease these guys.
How about putting them in the court system where they were picked up? Why does it have to be your way and your way only?

First answer is yes.
Secondly, I never said you couldn't have your opinion. You're one of the very few who express an opinion on why they should/n't be tried in civil courts.
Usually it's the patriotism trumps all, and no logic.
Not all those prisoners were captured on the battlefield.
Good day. < :-)

There must come a point when a whole nation cannot be trapped by a past mistake. The Guantanamo prison was a bad idea that must have been obvious to anybody involved in its creation. But like it or not it is there and needs to be resolved. As Skip says, why put the whole country in an insane position for a group of people that would not think understand your sense of fair play? Are they all guilty? I have no idea, but then nobody else on this site has either, however, do they in their present state represent a risk to the US? Yes they do, maybe not as bombers or terrorist fighter with guns, but can you not see the harm of an open trial? Sorry, the few have always had to pay the price for the many and in this case sacrificing the liberties of a few probable terrorists for the greater good of the nation doesn’t seem that high a price to pay.
